E3 2014

Natsume has three Nintendo-related announcements in store for E3 2014, the company has teased. That’s in addition to the news Natsume will be sharing about new Virtual Console releases.

Community manager CeeCee wrote in a recent “State of the Farm” Tumblr update:

We’re saving a few secrets for closer to the show, but expect not one, not two, but THREE new Nintendo titles we’ll be announcing leading up to and at the show! This doesn’t include any classic eShop titles (and we’ll have some news on those as well). Will they be 3DS, Wii U, or a mix of the two, you ask? You’ll have to tune in from now until June 10th to find out! 😀

I originally thought that Natsume would be announcing a localization for the latest Harvest Moon 3DS game, but as we know, XSEED ended up with the publishing rights. It’ll be interesting to see what’s announced!

WayForward will be sharing “big news” pertaining to Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse at E3 2014, the studio has teased.

WayForward wrote on Twitter earlier today:

Doesn’t it feel like we’ve been waiting ages for Pirate’s Curse? A release date would be nice!

Thanks to Noble Wrot for the tip.

Update: Here’s a few more weird/confusing tweets!

Under normal circumstances, the tweet above would seem harmless. But we’ve all heard about how Nintendo plans to show off the next Zelda game for Wii U at E3 next month.

Could Zelda Williams be tied into that somehow? Obviously speculation on my part, but we all know how important the Zelda franchise is to Zelda Williams. Her name comes from the series, after all!

Ubisoft will not be bringing any Wii U or 3DS titles to the E3 2014 event next month. “We won’t be showing off any Nintendo games at E3 this year,” a representative told NintendoWorldReport.

Initially, Ubisoft provided a decent amount of support for 3DS as well as Wii U. But now the publisher has nothing major lined up for Nintendo’s portable, and Watch Dogs is the only remaining title slated for Wii U.

When we first posted the E3 2014 floor plans, they turned out to be incomplete/outdated. The photos above seem to be the real deal as they were updated on the official site today.

Nintendo has shared new details about its plans for the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, which will be hosted at this year’s E3.

The company will be inviting 3,000 people to watch the tournament in-person. Additionally, the entire event will be live-streamed on Twitch’s E3 channel and Nintendo’s Twitch channel.

Those who dress up as their favorite Super Smash Bros. characters could be selected for priority seating in front of the stage. Since the tournament will be photographed and filmed, the best costumes may appear on Twitch and Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

Here’s the full breakdown of information regarding Super Smash Bros. Invitational – set for Tuesday, June 10th:

9:30 a.m.: Wristband distribution begins at NOKIA Plaza at L.A. LIVE, 777 Chick Hearn Court in Los Angeles. A wristband is required for entry, and 3,000 wristbands are available to Nintendo fans on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. Fans are requested to not line up prior to Tuesday morning. Once a wristband is obtained, fans can leave the plaza area and then return later that day, closer to the start of the event. The order that wristbands are obtained in the morning does not impact the order of entry into the venue in the afternoon.

2:30 p.m.: Doors open

4 p.m.:
Super Smash Bros. Invitational begins

You can find more information about the Super Smash Bros. Invitational on the official page here.

Head past the break for today’s official announcement.

Nintendo will be hosting a pair of important events at E3 2014 next month.

The first, taking place on Tuesday (7 – 8:30 PM PT / 10 – 11:30 PM ET), will be dedicated to the new Super Smash Bros. games. Masahiro Sakurai will be in attendance, of course.

The one on Wednesday (6 – 7:30 PM PT / 9 – 10:30 PM ET) is certainly more mysterious. Nintendo plans to discuss some sort of new 3DS game. No one knows what that one is about at the moment!

Update: Unfortunately, the floor plans appear to be outdated:

Original: Looks like Nintendo has rented out a sizable area for its E3 2014 showing, judging by the image above. The company will be operating three separate booths this year – one more than usual. I suppose they either have a lot to show!

Could GungHo Online Entertainment be making a game for Wii U? An official E3 page that lets users search for product categories lists the Puzzle & Dragons Z creator under the Wii U/RPG category. This seems like an interesting find, though I’d take it with a grain of salt given the possibility of an inaccurate listing.

Rumors surfaced last week of Nintendo potentially showing new hardware at this year’s E3. However, the speculation was quickly shot down.

Satoru Iwata seems to have now responded indirectly to the reports himself. The Nintendo president said rumors of Nintendo announcing a new version of the Wii U at E3 are “groundless.” The company will instead a new title that shows a new way to use the GamePad.
