Fire Emblem Fates

Earlier this month, we heard that Fire Emblem Fates’ petting mini-game had been removed from the western version. Review copies are going out, and it’s now clear how Nintendo handled the change in the west.

The Live2D interactions remain in tact, and you can still increase your support rank. The main difference here is that only the portion where you touch the person’s face with the stylus has been removed.

You can see this in action via the video below.

Thanks to Brian for the tip.

With members of their media getting their hands on Fire Emblem Fates, more English footage is starting to pop up. A couple of additional videos are below.

Never did an unboxing video, but here you go: a quick and dirty look at the Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition. It includes Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation along with an art book and carrying pouch.

We’re just two weeks away from Fire Emblem Fates’ North American release. With the game being so close, Nintendo has now started pre-loading on the 3DS eShop. You can purchase and download most of Fates now, with only a small update required on launch day to begin playing.

Birthright and Conquest can both be pre-loaded. However, you should make sure not to purchase both. As Nintendo explains on the eShop page:

“Please make sure not to purchase both Birthright and Conquest at full price on Nintendo eShop. To purchase second path at a discounted price, please select the Explore Fates option that appears at the beginning of Chapter Six, or purchase a download code at retail to redeem within the in-game shop Dragon’s Gate.”

A new Fire Emblem Fates trailer has arrived, which highlights the game’s DLC – namely Revelation and Map Pack 1. Watch it below.

Best Buy has an offer running on extra Fire Emblem Fates content. If you purchase a copy of the game or a bundle of both games, you can save $5 on Map Pack 1, and another $5 on the Revelation story. You can also choose to pick up just one of these DLC items. Visit the offer page here for extra details.

Following yesterday’s “Two Kingdoms” commercial, Nintendo has uploaded another ad for the game known as “After the Choice”. View it below.

The file sizes of Fire Emblem Fates’ two versions in North America have been revealed. Birthright is 1634MB, and Conquest is 1624MB. They’re 26,694 blocks combined, which is actually 2,028 more than the Japanese version. This is leading to speculation that Fates will feature dual audio.

I don’t believe Fire Emblem Fates is up for pre-load yet, but you can pre-order the different versions from Nintendo’s website digitally. Get Birthright here and Conquest here.

Update: In an article this week, Polygon also claims to have received confirmation about the petting removal from Nintendo (thanks for the tip, Jake).

A few days ago, news surfaced about Nintendo removing the petting mini-game from Fire Emblem Fates in the west. That information came from Kotaku, who received the information from the company. Since other well-known outlets were only citing Kotaku as their source, some wondered if the site had been misinformed or shared misinformation. As it turns out, what we heard originally is absolutely true.

A comment is making the rounds from Rich George, a director of Golin for Nintendo. For those that are unaware, Golin handles all PR for the Big N in the United States. George was able to reconfirm that Fire Emblem Fates’ petting mini-game has indeed been removed in the west.
