During a GDC Europe presentation, KnapNok Games’ Lau Korsgaard reflected on a few different topics including Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party.

Korsgaard feels that the studio succeeded with its Wii U eShop game. However, he did admit that the “Spin the Bottle” name may have been a mistake.

Korsgaard said:

“It has been really hard figuring out how to frame [the game] right. For instance, it hasn’t been received that well in the States … it has been received okay but a lot of people thought it was too naughty. Spin the Bottle in America has all the sexual subtext of people kissing each other, so I don’t think parents would let their children buy this game and play it. So I actually think maybe we shouldn’t have called it Spin the Bottle but just Bumpie’s Party or something like that.”

RCMADIAX has announced a new project for the Wii U eShop called “Spikey Walls”.

Spikey Walls is a spin-off of the well-known Flappy Bird games. In this title, players will use the GamePad’s physical buttons as opposed to the touch screen of mobile devices. RCMADIAX has implemented highscore tracker functionality that can be seen on the title screen.

Spikey Walls is currently awaiting testing at Nintendo of America, and it should see release in September or October. Pricing will be set at $0.99.

Speaking for the first time about the game since its announcement, Renegade Kid’s Jools Watsham has posted a blog entry on Xeodrifter detailing a whole heap of new information about the game. There’s a lot of new content here from soundtrack excerpts to screenshots to the game running on a 3DS. Here’s an excerpt:

In a Metroid / Castlevania kind of way, each screen you visit in the game reveals one screens worth of the map on the lower screen. This is a key element to Xeodrifter. The player is very much exploring new planets without prior knowledge of the layout. You will encounter obstacles that you cannot overcome, so it is important for the map to illustrate these locations so that you can identify them later and return to them.

In order to accomplish the correct map reveals, on a screen basis, required the levels to be carefully designed on a screen grid to ensure the game and the map synced up perfectly and revealed only what was needed on the map. If a screen that contained a pick-up was blocked by a Solar Flare door, for example, it was important to make sure the player could not enter any part of that screen and inadvertently “fill in” that screen on the map. If they did, the player would not see that portion of the map as unfinished / unvisited and be unaware of the fact that they needed to return to it later.

TreeFall Studios is partnering with RCMADIAX for a special crossover level in The Maze. Players will be able to access a bonus stage that takes inspiration from BLOK DROP U, as shown in the video above.

TreeFall Studios has reduced the price of The Letter. It’s currently on sale for $0.49, whereas it’s normally $1.99. The sale will last through August 15.

There’s been little news about IronFall since the game’s initial reveal last year. However, despite the silence, VD-Dev has continued to tinker away on development.

VD-Dev’s hard work sounds like it’s paying off, as the studio confirmed on Twitter that the game is 90 percent complete. It also seems that we’ll be hearing about a release date in September. One thing is for sure: IronFall will launch before the end of 2014.

TreeFall Studios hopes to fund its next project through Indiegogo. The indie developer launched a campaign today for “Maze” – a first-person puzzle/adventure game for the Wii U eShop.

TreeFall promises “tons of mazes, between multiple worlds, bonus worlds, arcade modes, and possibly a multi-player mode.” In terms of length, “it is a full fledged game, with a much longer length than The Letter.”

You can check out Maze on Indiegogo here.

Secret Tunnel Entertainment is bringing its PC action-arcade game “Shapes of Gray” to Wii U. A release is planned for early 2015.

Here’s an official overview of Shapes of Gray from the game’s developer:

Shapes of Gray is a fast-paced, stripped-down arcade game where you descend through a series of seconds-long levels, with a unique combat-puzzle in each one. I’ve heard it described as “the WarioWare of Dark Souls,” which I think is fitting.

For example, one level might pit your gray blob against two highly-explosive circles and an almighty square, who can only be defeated by slashing the weak point on his back. You could take care the two circles separately and then maneuver around to the square’s backside–but with only a few seconds to clear the level, wouldn’t it be smarter (and faster!) to bat one of the circles into the square to destroy him in the ensuing explosion?

Shapes of Gray for Wii U will add new modes, levels, and unlockables. Additionally, Secret Tunnel Entertainment is including off-TV play and Miiverse support.

More information about Shapes of Gray will be shared in the coming weeks.
