Yoshi’s New Island – A couple of Japanese commercials

Yoshi’s New Island has sold modestly well but it appears that Nintendo are looking to push it even harder in Japan when it launches there later this month. They’ve released a couple of short TV spots for the game, which you can check out below.

Kirby Fighters Z and DeDeDe’s Drum Dash Z coming to Japan

Kirby Fighters Z and DeDeDe’s Drum Dash are coming to the 3DS eShop in Japan later this month. These titles are updated versions of the mini-games from Kirby Triple Deluxe that will be packaged separately, Kirby Fighters Z for 500 yen and DeDeDe’s Drum Dash for 750 yen a piece, with a number of changes and additions to both games. Kirby’s Fighters Z is getting the Bell and Beetle power-up along with additional stages, while Drum Dash has a number of new stages with more masks for DeDeDe to wear based on other characters in the series. Both titles are coming July 23rd to the Japanese 3DS eShop.

Mages working on Magic☆Idol Collection for 3DS

Mages is developing a new 3DS rhythm game titled “Magic?Idol Collection”. A trailer can be found above, and details are posted below.
– The citizens of the Land of Magic have their hearts frozen
– Protagonsit Plum Hoshikawa needs to thaw them out with her magically warm singing and dancing
– Plum dreams of becoming an idol
– The night before her final audition, she prays for her best before going to sleep
– Plum wakes up and finds herself in an unknown world—the Land of Magic
– This place was once a peaceful land
– The evil witch of the North froze the hearts of all its citizens, which lead to the land’s magic getting weaker over time
– The Land of Magic can only be saved by a girl with huge dreams and hopes
– That’s none other than Plum
– Kururu: the familiar of Queen Lily
– Kururu will help navigate around the Land of Magic
– Maestro: go-getter producer
– Maestro will help make a splendid stage for Plum to sing and perform
– Osha-P: another producer in charge of dressing up Plum with his keen fashion sense
– Game has interactions
– Play as Plum to walk around the lands to go through various events, talk to different citizens, and fix hearts
– The citizens of the Land of Magic will drop hints and occasionally give you items
– In order to make your costumes and the performance stage, you’ll need to find material in town
– Acquire them through gardening as well
– Rhythm part of the game has players touching and timing the icons with their respective buttons along with some catchy tunes
– Stage backgrounds, costumes, and hairstyles can be customized for different looks
– Out in November

Japanese sales for the first half of 2014 – hardware, top 10 software

Famitsu has published a bunch of information about the Japanese games market for the first half of 2014.
Hardware sales are up 6.4 percent year-over-year, though software sales dipped by 3.8 percent. Overall, the market is up only 0.1 percent.
Here’s a look at the total hardware sales for the year thus far:
3DS – 1,079,166 units
PS Vita – 639,730 units
PS4 – 613,785 units
PS3 – 300,386 units
Wii U – 291,605 units
PSP – 80,251 units
Xbox 360 – 6,421 units
Wii – 6,194 units
Lifetime sales for hardware platforms are posted below:
PSP – 19,688,744 units total
3DS – 15,773,177 units total
Wii – 12,744,273 units total
PS3 – 9,868,886 units total
PS Vita – 2,914,869 units total
Wii U – 1,810,032 units total
Xbox 360 – 1,613,980 units total

Day 1 Patch available for Youkai Watch 2 in Japan

A day 1 patch for Youkai Watch 2 is apparently available for players who already have a copy of the game in Japan. Along with the purchase of the game, a QR code is included with the box that takes 3DS systems straight to the eShop to download. Currently it’s unknown what the day 1 patch adds, it could possibly be related to some of the announcements of last week’s Nintendo Direct. We’ll update the post as new information surfaces

Dragon Quest X heading to 3DS, hitting Japan in September

Dragon Quest X is coming to the 3DS, Square Enix announced today. The game will be available in Japan on September 4 for 3,800 yen.
On 3DS, Dragon Quest X looks to be the same full-fledged experience currently available on Wii U, Wii, and PC. You’ll also be able to play the handheld release with players in the other versions.
Also worth noting, Dragon Quest X for 3DS makes use of streaming technology. 3D will not be supported.
