Those who purchase the Wii U version of Rodea: The Sky Solider will be treated to a special bonus. NIS America is including a copy of the original Wii title, which was how creator Yuji Naka envisioned the game.

In Japan, the Wii version had its own separate disc. We weren’t sure if this would be the case in the west as well, but NIS America has since confirmed this to be the case.

The publisher wrote on Twitter today:

It’ll be interesting to see what NIS America does with the Wii boxart. Will they use the Japanese version (see above), or something new?

Rodea: The Sky Soldier isn’t doing so well in Japan. Actually, that’s probably a gross understatement.

With Rodea: The Sky Soldier not appearing on the Media Create charts, it was a sign that the game had sold poorly. Dengeki, which is also involved with sales tracking, provides a disappointing figure for Rodea’s debut in Japan.

Dengeki says that Rodea: The Sky Solider on Wii U sold 2,725 units in its first week. The 3DS version did not chart at all, so that version sold even fewer copies. Very disappointing!

NIS America intends to release a limited edition for Rodea: The Sky Soldier.

Fans can purchase the special version for either Wii U or 3DS. You’ll receive a copy of the game, a hardcover art book, 10-song original soundtrack with jewel case, collector’s box, and “Key of Time” Pendant with chain bonus item.

Pricing for the Wii U version is set at $74.99. The 3DS version costs $54.99.

Did you know that the Wii version of Rodea: The Sky Soldier is the only one with multiplayer? The Wii U and 3DS editions do not. In the Wii game, four players are able to race to the end of five levels.
