Legend of Kay Anniversary should be launching in North America next Tuesday. In Europe, gamers may need to wait a few extra weeks.

Some of Amazon’s websites, such as its UK and German divisions, now say that Legend of Kay Anniversary is scheduled for August 11. This new date hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but things aren’t looking good.

Legend of Kay Anniversary launches for Wii U on July 28.

Nordic Games previously announced that Legend of Kay Anniversary would be available this summer. A specific date has now been pinned down: July 28.

As announced on the Nordic Games Twitter account today:

We conducted an extensive interview with the developer behind Legend of Kay Anniversary back in April. For those that missed it, the discussion can be seen here.

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to interview the developer behind Legend of Kay Anniversary. One of the things Peter Thierolf from Kaiko confirmed to us at the time was that it was running at 720p on Wii U. But with some extra development, the game’s resolution has increased.

Thierolf has informed Nintendo Everything that Kaiko was able to upgrade Legend of Kay Anniversary’s rendering with some optimizations and fine-tuning. Currently, it “renders the scene in 1600*900 and outputs in 1080p with extra crisp UI”. Of course, Legend of Kay Anniversary still runs at 60 frames per second, and features full screen anti-aliasing.

Legend of Kay Anniversary launches this summer.

The news of Legend of Kay’s revival was unexpected, to say the least. It originally launched for the PlayStation 2 back in 2005, and ended up as more of a niche platformer for the console. Yet now the game is back in a remastered format for Wii U and a few other platforms, thanks to Nordic Games and developer Kaiko.

Nordic recently announced that Legend of Kay Anniversary is slated for spring. With the title’s launch coming sooner rather than later, we caught up with Kaiko’s Peter Thierolf for an interview. We asked Thierolf about why Legend of Kay is returning after so many years, what sort of improvements are being implemented, how it will play on Wii U, and more.

Read on below for our full interview.

Due to leaks from retailers, we knew that Legend of Kay Anniversary was happening and was bound for Wii U. Yet it wasn’t until today that publisher Nordic Games made the title official.

Legend of Kay, a 3D-action platformer, originally hit the PlayStation 2 back in 2005. A DS port came to market in 2010. This new version features revamped visuals and a few additional features.

Speaking about today’s announcement, Nordic Games business and product development director Reinhard Pollice said:

Legend of Kay was a true gem on the Playstation 2 platform. Our strategy is to focus on our IPs and make them available to as many players as possible and also on the current generation of consoles. We keep our options open to expand on the Legend of Kay franchise in the future.

Legend of Kay Anniversary is due out this summer. On Wii U, it will be priced at $24.99.
