A quick look at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe following today’s update suggests that five more racers could be added to the game.

Although we’re now on the fourth round of DLC, returning characters are just now being added. Birdo kicked things off today as a new arrival, but we know that more racers are planned for the future.

We previously heard that Yoshi’s Island will be appearing as a brand new track. It will be joined by Tour Amsterdam Drift, GBA Riverside Park, Wii DK Summit, Tour Bangkok Rush, DS Mario Circuit, GCN Waluigi Stadium, and Tour Singapore Speedway. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe new characters

In the flood of news this week stemming from the latest Nintendo Direct, something fans may have missed is that the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC will be adding even more returning characters in the future.

For the first three waves, only new tracks were added. However, for the fourth round, Nintendo announced that Birdo is on the way. Confirmation of even more characters were confirmed in the Nintendo Direct recap we posted, but that was something may probably missed. We should be seeing at least two more roster additions later in 2023.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Birdo

Yoshi’s Island is being added as a new course. Additionally, Birdo is on the way as a new character.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update 2.2.1

Another update is here for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with the game moving up to version 2.2.1. We also have the official patch notes from Nintendo.

This isn’t quite major as only two specific issues have been addressed. The first one deals with Berlin Byways getting choppy when playing online. With the second, Lakitu wouldn’t put players in the correct spot after falling off of course in London Loop, but this has now been addressed. Based on what Nintendo has said, that’s all there is here.

The official patch notes for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version 2.2.1 update are as follows:

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe recently received its latest wave of DLC from the Booster Course Pass, so now’s a great time to think about the best character and kart builds for those looking to get into the nitty gritty of things.

If you’ve played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online, you’ve likely come across a lot of players using Waluigi with the Wild Wiggler, Rollers, and Paper Glider. Although part of the reason for this might be the humorous contrast of watching Waluigi ride on a caterpillar, the main factor behind this build’s ubiquity is that it is one of the most optimal character and kart combinations in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This naturally leads into the question of why this build is so good, and if there are other builds in the game that might be able to compete with it. This guide will aim to answer both of those questions, first by explaining some of the hidden mechanics that make certain builds more viable than others, and then by providing examples of some of the more competitive builds Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has to offer.

Nintendo has now shared the official patch notes for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe version 2.2.0 update.

Naturally, the biggest element here is support for the game’s third wave of Booster Course Pass DLC. That’s not all to it, however. As we reported earlier today, a Custom Items feature has been added. Nintendo has also implemented some other adjustments and fixes.
