Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam has been out in Europe since earlier this month, and in just a few weeks, it’ll be launching in the states as well. That means Nintendo of America is starting to get its promotional efforts going, in part with a teaser website located here. I’m sure it’ll be filled with all sorts of content very soon!

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

Nintendo distributed a 3DS puzzle in Europe last month. If you have a North American system, you should be receiving a SpotPass notification with your first piece. Just make sure Internet is enabled!

Nintendo of Europe has uploaded a new overview trailer for Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, which you can see below. The game’s been out in European territories for a couple of weeks now, but North American 3DS owners may want to give it a watch!

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam launched in Japan on December 3. During its first few days on the market, the game sold just under 50,000 units (a double pack containing Mario Kart 7 moved another 2,400 copies). Media Create indicates that it sold through just 17.97 percent of its initial shipment.

The sales tracker further points to the game’s slow start by comparing Paper Jam’s debut to two other Mario RPGs on 3DS. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team sold 100,000 copies back in July 2013 with a 25.49 percent sell-through while Paper Mario: Sticker Star launched in December 2012 with initial sales of 129,000 units and a sell through of 33.42 percent.

We all know that Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam lets players obtain cards for use in battle by scanning amiibo. But interestingly, there are also “sparkle” cards that can be obtained by registering two amiibo of the same character. One example would be to use Mario from the Smash Bros. line as well as one from the Mario Party line.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam may have come out in Europe last week, but it won’t be arriving in North America until January. That means Nintendo is still promoting the game with various assets. Take a look at the latest trailer below titled “Just the Fax”.

This Thursday, December 3rd, a new Event Course designed by the developers of Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros will be available in Super Mario Maker. Beating it gets you the Paper Mario costume pictured above.
