Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold 36,000 units (give or take) in its first week on the Japanese market. This we know. Media Create, however, has shared a few extra bits about the game’s sales.

Perhaps most significant, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze only sold through 35.28 percent of its initial shipment. Media Create mentions that the series is seeing a downward trend in sales. As previously mentioned, Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii sold 163,000 units in its first week while the 3DS port sold another 104,000 units.

Aside from the Wii U’s lower installed base, why are gamers seemingly less interested? Media Create speculates that people aren’t being enticed by the new layers within Tropical Freeze. The sales tracker also cautions people to consider the heavy snow last weekend, especially in places like Tohoku and Kanto areas.

And of course, we can’t forget about what kind of title Donkey Kong is. Media Create points out that more sales will come over a longer period of time due to its evergreen nature.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold 35,000 copies in its first week on the Japanese market. How does that figure stack up to Donkey Kong Country Returns?

When the Wii game originally came out, it sold 163,000 units in its first week. The 3DS port Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D also sold quite well having moved 104,000 copies.

Shipments for Youkai Watch have surpassed 500,000 units in Japan, Level-5 confirmed today. As of February 16, sales come in at about 424,000 units based on Media Create data. The 3DS game has been seeing a bit of a resurgence on the sales charts as of late and it shouldn’t be too longer before actual sales (not shipments) officially hit the 500,000 mark.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 sold 443,656 copies in its first week on the Japanese market. Media Create says this resulted in a 78.65% sell-through rate.

Despite Dragon Quest Monsters 2’s initial success, it hasn’t quite reached the same heights as the first Dragon Quest Monsters 3DS remake. When Square Enix released the previous DQM title for Nintendo’s portable, it sold 513,183 copies in its first week for a 93.96% sell-through.

Of course, we should maintain some perspective here. At the end of the day, there’s no denying that Dragon Quest Monsters 2 has gotten off to a fast start and Square Enix is likely pleased with its performance.
