Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO is introducing another new way of dealing with cheaters. Those who use “third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay” will see a certain mark in their inventory. It also looks like Pokemon “may not behave as expected.”

Here’s the full statement from Niantic:

“With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience.”

Beyond the statement above, no further specifics have been shared. However, this may include “mappers” that tell players where rare Pokemon will spawn, spoofing, or bots.

Niantic has pulled back the curtain on a substantial update coming soon to Pokemon GO. When it’s released, players will have access to number of new features.

Pokemon GO is seeing “a major facelift” to Gyms, such as spinning the Photo Disc at Gyms to obtain items similar to PokeStops. Gyms will also now feature “six permanent slots that can be filled by the controlling team’s Pokemon.” A motivation system is being added as well “that will significantly change how you interact with Gyms.”

Also new in the update are Gym Badges, a Raid Battle feature in which Trainers work together to take down a powerful Raid Boss, and new items.

Full details about the update are below along with screenshots.

The biggest update to Pokémon GO is nearly here! Very soon, Trainers around the world will be able to participate in a revamped Gym gameplay experience, including the opportunity to join together with others to battle against powerful Pokémon in the new Raid Battle feature!

New Gym Features and Updates: Starting soon, Gyms are undergoing a major facelift. You’ll soon be able to spin the Photo Disc at Gyms to acquire items just as you do at PokéStops—but that’s only the beginning. More updates to Gym battles are also just around the corner. Gyms are no longer based on Prestige and training. Instead, they now feature six permanent slots that can be filled by the controlling team’s Pokémon. Each Pokémon assigned to these slots must be unique. For example, only one Blissey can be assigned to a Gym at a time. In addition, opposing teams will battle the Pokémon in the order they were assigned to the Gym.

At the heart of the update is a new motivation system that will significantly change how you interact with Gyms. When a Pokémon is assigned to a Gym, a motivation meter will be displayed. Pokémon assigned to defend a Gym lose motivation over time and as they are defeated in battle. As a Pokémon loses motivation, its CP will temporarily decrease, making it easier for opposing teams to defeat. To help keep the Pokémon motivated and in tip-top shape for their next battle, Trainers can treat their team’s Pokémon to some Berries, which restore their motivation. If a Pokémon loses all motivation, it will leave the Gym and return to its Trainer the next time it loses a battle, so you’ll want to keep your team’s Pokémon motivated by giving them Berries frequently!

Pokemon GO is gearing up for another special event. Starting tomorrow and lasting for a week, players can participate in a new promotion involving Fire-type and Ice-type Pokemon.

Trainers will be able to more easily discover Charmander, Cyndaquil, Growlithe, Houndour, Ponyta, Swinub, Vulpix, and their Evolutions. Sneasel, Magmar, Cloyster, and other Fire types and Ice will be more likely to appear as well.

Players will earn huge XP bonuses for successfully catching Pokemon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws, as well as Curveballs and First Throws. You’ll earn even more XP for hatching Eggs, too. Lucky Eggs will be 50% off in the in-game shop to celebrate.

Earlier this week, Apple unveiled new technology for developers known as the ARKit. Pokemon GO was featured at the company’s presentation to highlight the improvements of augmented reality.

Niantic added a new blog to its site covering the news. In the future, Pokemon GO will hopefully let players experience “new, fun and innovative ways to place Pokemon in the world around you, to view Pokemon, and to use your phone camera to capture the moment.”

Here’s the full rundown from Niantic:

It’s been almost a year now since Pokemon GO launched, and developer Niantic is celebrating that occasion (and the milestone of 750 million downloads) with a variety of events.

Starting on June 13th, the Solstice Event will go live. Fire and Ice-type Pokemon will be more frequently encountered, there will be XP bonuses for throwing Poke Balls accurately and Lucky Eggs will be discounted in the shop.

Update (6/7): The update is now starting to go live.

Original (6/5): Niantic is rolling out the latest update for Pokemon GO. Players will soon have access to version 1.33.4 on iOS and version 0.63.4 on Android.

If you were hoping that this would be a big update, you might be disappointed. Niantic is only implementing bug fixes with this patch.

Apple offered a first look at a new advanced augmented reality tool known as ARKit at the Worldwide Developers Conference today. As part of the demonstration, Pokemon GO was featured. The mobile game will use the new tech, which allows for “fast, stable motion tracking,” along with scale estimation and ambient lighting estimation for a more immersive augmented reality experience.

It’s unclear how specifically Pokemon GO will be taking advantage of ARKit. Apple also did not say when the technology is releasing, and it’s currently unsupported by the company’s current hardware. Still, Pokemon GO players can look forward to improved AR functionality in the future.

Some long awaited content finally appears to be heading to Pokemon GO this summer. In an interview with Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Niantic VP of Strategic Partnerships Mathieu de Fayet indicated that the game will be updated with Legendary Pokemon as well as player-versus-player battles.

Fayet’s statement is translated as follows:

“Because of the huge success, we had to delay some planned news. Now, we are working in announcing new updates for this summer (Northern Hemisphere), like giving more value to the choice of teams, launching Legendary Pokémon and battles between the players. One thing which we learned with ‘Ingress’ is that the game sustains itself if we are capable to create social interactions between the trainers, and we are working on that.”

Although not an official confirmation, things are definitely looking good hear. Niantic did also recently teased that this summer would be “legendary”.
