Nintendo has issued a response to the latest NPD report, revealing some fairly impressive sales for its two primary systems and games.

Hardware sales for Nintendo platforms are up by 100 percent over the month prior, the company says. The 3DS family sold roughly 770,000 units, bringing the handheld’s lifetime sales past 10 million to nearly 10.5 million units in the US. Wii U sales also rose by more than 340 percent over sales in October.

Notable software sales include Pokemon X/Y at 225,000 units (lifetime 2.35 million units), Zelda: A Link Between Worlds at 280,000 units (405,000 with the Zelda 3DS XL bundle), and Super Mario 3D World at 215,000 units.

NPD never hands out hardware data these days, meaning we usually have to rely on leaks and estimates in order to find out how well systems perform each month. Thankfully, NeoGAF user “creamsugar” has come through with a decent overview of October’s sales in the US.

Here’s a general estimate provided by creamsugar’s leak:

PSV < 30k < Wii < 40k < 50k < Wii U < 60k < 100k < PS3 < 120k This figure suggests that the Wii U managed to outsell the Wii, which the console has had a tough time doing most of the year. Wii U apparently sold between 50,000 and 60,000 units while the Wii moved between 30,000 and 40,000 consoles. Source

Sonic Lost World’s debut sales in the US are in. For the month of October, the game sold under 30,000 copies. That figure combines sales of both versions – Wii U and 3DS.

Now, 30,000 copies isn’t a whole lot, but there is something important to keep in mind. Sonic Lost World launched in North America on October 29. NPD’s latest reporting period ended on November 2. This means Sonic’s debut sales account for a little less than a week of sales.

Nintendo has responded to the October 2013 NPD data report.

The company’s results are highlighted by 3DS sales, which came in at 452,000 units last month. October 3DS sales doubled last month’s total, and according to Nintendo, “marked the most units any portable video game system or home console has sold in a single month in 2013.”

Pokemon X/Y were the top two selling titles in the US last month. Both versions sold 1.7 million copies in the US.

Thanks to the new Pokemon releases, October was the biggest month for 3DS software. Nintendo said in its NPD response today, “Total Nintendo 3DS first-party software sales hit more than 2 million units sold, the highest tally since the report for December 2011, which included sales of hit games Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.”
