Project X Zone 2

We don’t post too much about Japanese demos these days, but the one for Project X Zone 2 may have some relevance overseas. After all, we did receive a couple of demos for the original game here in the west.

Bandai Namco is releasing a Project X Zone 2 demo on the Japanese eShop on October 9. It features the game’s opening stages, and for each round cleared, players will receive an “Early Play Benefit Item” for use in the retail version. We’ll probably be seeing the demo in North America and Europe closer to launch.

Thanks to RobinNop for the tip.

Last week it was revealed that several Nintendo characters like Lucina and Chrom from Fire Emblem would be joining the cast of Project X Zone 2. Today, we have confirmation of a couple of non-Nintendo characters appearing in the game via some Korean language screenshots of the game.

The most striking addition is probably Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue. Also joining the cast is Ingrid from Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX. Finally, the screenshots confirm that Estelle from Tales of Vesperia is returning from the first game.

Bandai Namco announced a number of new characters for Project X Zone 2 at the Tokyo Game Show today – including a couple from Nintendo’s Fire Emblem franchise.

Thanks to IGN, 15 minutes of off-screen Project X Zone 2 footage has come in from TGS 2015. View the new video below.

Destructoid was recently able to give Project X Zone 2 a spin, and has now shared some hands-on gameplay impressions. While checking the game out, the site was able to chat with series producer Kensuke Tsukanaka.

Tsukanaka stated that the opening animation of Project X Zone 2 will feature every playable hero. Additionally, the video will be just over two minutes of length.

Tsukanaka added:

“We’re aiming to look for new fans with an even bigger cast. We want people to see a new character and ask ‘what game is this from?’ We want them to become even more involved with the industry as a whole.”

In Project X Zone 2, Monolith Soft is giving more effort to the original animation. Fans can count on more artwork than before in and out of combat.

As for how the collaboration between Bandai Namco, Capcom, and SEGA is possible, Tsukanaka mentioned that “all of us have a mutual respect for each other. We’ve also collaborated for years with one another, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to create this project. The rivalry still exists, but it’s a friendly one.”
