September 2016 NPD: Debut Yo-kai Watch 2 and Dragon Quest VII sales, Wii U and 3DS performance, more

NPD’s preliminary report for September 2016 sales in the United States is starting to make the rounds. AstronautClaire, who has access to the data, was kind enough to share some early information.
Yo-kai Watch 2 was one of Nintendo’s big releases last month. It launched in two versions at the very end of September: Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls. Between September 30 and October 1, the game sold about 35,000 copies. It’s somewhat tough to comment on Yo-kai Watch 2’s performance thus far given that we have just a couple of days worth of data. However, it is worth noting that Leo Burnett’s Yo-kai Watch 2 commercials have aired 803 times across Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, so quite a bit of money is being spent on advertising.

More insight into Monster Hunter Stories’ first week sales in Japan
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 5 Comments
Monster Hunter Stories sold 141,000 copies in its first week, according to Media Create. Now the sales tracker has shared more on how it’s done thus far.
As a Monster Hunter spin-off game aimed at low-age audiences (think children), it far exceeded Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village DX, which was released in September 2015 and sold 59,000 copies with 57.48 percent sell-through rate. Based on Media Create’s findings with regard to pre-orders, promotions like the demo and the anime broadcast helped boost the number by about 20 to 30 percent. However, Monster Hunter Stories’ first week sell-through rate was 51.83 percent, which was less than Airou Village DX.
Store clerks have also said that adults are mainly showing more interest. This might be seen as a lacking start from a retailer perspective.
