Ubisoft support for Nintendo platforms appears to be in steep decline. In its latest financial report for example, the company makes mention of Wii U only once, and that’s for Child of Light – a game already available. On 3DS, Ubisoft hasn’t had a major release in quite a long time.

In the previous financial year, Wii U accounted for only 3 percent of Ubisoft’s overall sales. 3DS was even worse – in large part due to a lack of games – coming in at 0 percent. Wii was the only platform to make a decent dent having contributed 11 percent.

What kind of Nintendo support can we expect from Ubisoft in the future? Well, Watch Dogs is still coming to Wii U. A new Just Dance will likely be made for both Wii U and Wii as well. Aside from these games though, nothing appears to be on the horizon sadly.

Ubisoft has set a new record with Watch Dogs pre-orders.

The game, set to be released later this month, is now the most pre-ordered new IP in Ubisoft’s history and the second-highest pre-ordered Ubisoft game ever. If that wasn’t enough, Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in the entire industry this year as well.

Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, commented:

“These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs. The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”

Gamestop pre-order sales data indicate that Watch Dogs “is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”

GameStop senior vice president of merchandising Bob Puzon said:

“There is massive buzz in all of our stores around Watch Dogs. Based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”

Wii U – 7,613
3DS – 7,529
PSP – 2,022
Vita TV – 1,351
Xbox 360 – 233

For comparison’s sake, here are the hardware numbers from last week:

3DS LL – 31,979
Vita – 23,030
PS4 – 11,486
PS3 – 9,252

Xbox 360 – 278

The arrival of Golden Week usually signifies an uptick in Japanese game sales. Unsurprisingly, that was no different this year. For the week of April 28th, hardware sales rose by 112.29 percent over the week prior, in part thanks to the performance of the 3DS. However, sales were down overall year-over-year.

Media Create data reveals that software sales dipped by 68.57 percent. One could say that the lack of a major new title partially resulted in the downturn. In 2013, Nintendo released Tomodachi Life – a big seller having moved almost 210,000 copies during Golden Week.

Hardware sales also decreased by 68.21 percent compared to last week’s Golden Week period. Even though the 3DS sold well on the whole, it only managed to move 51.82 percent of last year’s total.

What does this all ultimately amount to? A 30 percent drop in overall sales.
