Temtem review

System: Switch
Release Date: September 6, 2022
Developer: Crema
Publisher: Humble Games

I’ve always wished I could be whisked away to a world like Pokemon or Dragon Quest Monsters – a place where I can collect creatures and build bonds. A world of adventure where friendships and hard work can lead to more and more epic battles with stronger and stronger opponents. Monster taming games will have to scratch that itch, for now, and Temtem’s island world has a ton of new creatures to meet and befriend, but will it become another destination for our “lets get reincarnated in another world and catch some monsters” dreams, or will this one be overshadowed by its acclaimed predecessors?

Temtem interview Crema

Temtem, a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure, is finally out on Switch after previously spending a couple of years in early access. Crema game director Guillermo Andrades and community manager Lucía Prieto have now shared more about the title in an interview with Nintendo Everything.

Some of the topics we discussed include how the studio landed on the idea to make Temtem, how it has evolved since its debut in early access, whether we could see the IP featured outside of games, and the possibility of a sequel. You can read our full interview below.

Temtem Pokemon

As a creature-collection game, Temtem has seen a number of comparisons to Pokemon. Crema, the studio behind Temtem, has now weighed in on those comparisons.

In an interview with Nintendo Everything, Crema’s Lucía Prieto said that the team actually finds those comparisons “healthy to a degree.” However, the developer feels it’s necessary to say that “Temtem is not backed up by 25 years of learning, progressing and developing, and that we’re a much smaller IP who hasn’t branched out beyond game development.”

Temtem 1.0

Temtem will be at version 1.0 when it lands on Switch, and publisher Humble Games and developer Crema have now shared a new trailer that shows off what will be available. The new Tamer’s Paradise island, multiple combat modes, rewards, and more are included.

It’s been a long time coming, but Temtem finally has a release date on Switch. Following a previous stint in Early Access, the game will be available for Nintendo’s console on September 6, 2022.

New features are planned for Temtem to coincide with its primary launch. After the launch of version 1.0, players can look forward to seasonal updates and a Battle Pass with free and premium awards tracks. Also planned is the final island, completing the Airborne Archipelago, and offering new activities through which you can test yourself as a Temtem tamer, new places to shop, and new areas to explore with friends. Finally, there’ll be weekly quests that will be updated regularly post-launch.
