3DS eShop

A WayForward classic appears to be coming soon to the 3DS Virtual Console. The OFLC has rated Xtreme Sports, a Game Boy Color title released nearly 14 years ago. Hopefully we’ll be seeing Xtreme Sports on the eShop soon.

Developer Agatsuma Entertainment have launched an official English website for their quirky “Rubbering Action” game (their words, not mine), showing that Umihara Kawase will be swinging onto the eShop in Europe and Oceania. The part that’s as unexpected as a giant tadpole giving birth to frogs is that the game will be out as soon as the 24th of April. As suggested by a pair of classifications earlier in the year, Agatsuma Entertainment will be self-publishing the title in these regions, though it’ll be digital only like the American release. Sayonara Umihara Kawase will be priced at 24.9€ and we’re waiting on pricing information for other regions. Seems a little pricey for the nichest of niche games, but if it’s anything like the previous games in the series (which I wrote a bunch of words about), it should be worth a look. Agatsuma are also referring to the game as “UmiharaKawase”, which I will not stand for. Next they’ll be calling it “Yumi’s Odd Odyssey” or some nonsense.

We’ve briefly touched on Shovel Knight’s unique Wii U and 3DS features in the past. Thanks to Destructoid’s recent interview with Yacht Club Games, more information has surfaced.

On 3DS, players can change their items and view gear without having to stop the action. There’s also the StreetPass Arena, which Destructoid describes as follows:

“You have to collect five gems in five seconds and defeat the other Shovel Knights, but there are no other Shovel Knights. But when you Street Pass someone, your recordings go head to head and you can watch the wild stabs at nothing after the fact.”

The Wii U version of Shovel Knight will also have some unique elements of its own. This version will offer Digger’s Diary messages on the GamePad in every area, somewhat like to Dark Souls – and drawing is allowed as well. Yacht Club Games also intends to bring multiplayer to the Wii U version through a future free update.
