Monster Hunter Stories interview

In a recent interview, Capcom spoke about the decision to bring back the original Monster Hunter Stories. The game just came to new platforms last week, including Switch.

Famitsu caught up with producer Yoshihiro Akira to talk about the updated version. When asked about why Monster Hunter Stories was brought back following its original 3DS launch, he shared the following:

Hyrule Warriors concerns

Hyrule Warriors has become a fairly successful sub-series for The Legend of Zelda, but prior to its release, Nintendo of America was apparently concerned about the game.

That news comes from Kit Ellis, who has many years of experience working at the company. He mentioned during the latest Kit & Krysta podcast episode how people within Nintendo of America were worried about the quality of Hyrule Warriors and the possibility of it dropping the status of Zelda. Some even felt that it shouldn’t be released in North America.

Best 3DS games of all time

Today, we’re looking at 10 of the best 3DS games of all time. If there are any you’d like to add, feel free to do so in the comments below.

Though the 3DS’ online servers have been shut down for a few months now, interest in the console hasn’t decreased in the slightest. In fact, it’s quite the opposite – many players have either rekindled their appreciation for it or are just getting into it for the first time. It’s easy to see why, too. The Switch is almost certainly the superior console in terms of software library and game quality, but the 3DS has a few advantages of its own. Its library isn’t as large as the Switch’s, but the titles it does have are excellent time-sinkers and some of the best of their respective series. If you’re able to find or purchase these games second-hand, it’s a great time to get into everything the 3DS has to offer.

Mythical Pokemon

One of the most common criticisms of modern Pokemon is its handling of Mythical Pokemon. Though the recent Mochi Mayhem DLC in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a welcome exception, several important Mythical Pokemon have drawn attention for their distinct lack of backstory. Otherwise well-designed creatures like Diancie, Volcanion, Zeraora, and Zarude are somewhat notorious for doing absolutely nothing in the games they were introduced in. Today, we’re going over all the interesting Mythical Pokemon events the games have had to offer and coming up with new ones for the Mythical Pokemon that didn’t receive one.

streetpass

One major complaint that the Switch often receives is its lack of non-game features. The Wii U was perhaps Nintendo’s most “social” console yet – it included the ability to video chat friends, post messages to Miiverse, and much more. It wasn’t just the Wii U, though. The 3DS was home to its own selection of social features, including the aforementioned Miiverse plus Swapnote and then StreetPass – a feature that lets you automatically transmit data with nearby consoles to unlock exclusive content in-game. StreetPass worked perfectly with the 3DS: it’s a rather small portable handheld, which makes it easy to carry around. The same can’t quite be said of the Switch, which is generally much larger and requires Joy-Con on top of the larger tablet size. Today, we’re remembering StreetPass and some of the games it supported – plus how Nintendo’s next console (whatever it may be) could possibly bring it back.

shiny locked pokemon

Shiny hunting is one of the best ways to squeeze additional hours out of Pokemon games. Almost every single Pokemon is obtainable in its Shiny form in one way or another. That being said, there are a handful of Pokemon – mostly of the Legendary and Mythical varieties – that are completely unavailable in this form without hacking. If you’re curious, we’ve compiled a list of every Shiny locked Pokemon in 2024.

3DS Wii U online play end date

January 23: Nintendo has provided an official shutdown date for 3DS and Wii U online play. This will go into effect on April 8, 2024 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET. Users are warned “that if an event occurs that would make it difficult to continue online services for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software, Nintendo may have to discontinue services earlier than planned.”

This news doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Nintendo already gave fans a heads up back in October that it would be pulling the plug on 3DS / Wii U online support. April was already confirmed – we just didn’t have a specific date.

Top 10 Wii U and 3DS Online Games

The 3DS and (to a smaller extent) the Wii U are some of Nintendo’s most beloved systems of all time. Both got off to something of a slow start, but the 3DS eventually steered itself back on-track and became a success. The same can’t be said for the Wii U, but both consoles are home to top-quality games. With online services shutting down for these platforms, we figured now would be a good time to list ten of our favorite games with online functionality in no particular order.
