Billy Mitchell has long been known as one of the top Donkey Kong and Pac-Man players in the world. But his reputation took a hit in 2018 after he was accused of obtaining a high score in Nintendo’s arcade classic by playing with an emulator, which is “strictly forbidden”. His record was removed soon after, and he was banned from submitting scores to Twin Galaxies. Guinness World Records also decided to throw out his Donkey Kong scores and records for Pac-Man.

We’re now hearing that in April 2019, Mitchell filed suit against Twin Galaxies. Speaking with Ars Technica, he said the case was “officially served to Twin Galaxies” in February. A detailed complaint was then added in March.

The DS and Wii era marked Nintendo’s first foray into online gaming. For both of these systems, the company introduced a feature known as Friend Codes. This was a bit controversial as some felt that screen names would have been much more convenient and easier to use.

An internal presentation has appeared online, which gives insight into Nintendo’s thinking at the time. This is part of the big leak that we heard about this weekend.

A few days ago, leaks started to surface regarding some of the older Pokemon games. We were able to get a look at tons of beta designs from the Gen 2 era, which was followed by even more earlier sprites and other assets. Apparently, this Pokemon content was just a larger portion of an overall huge Nintendo leak. Source code for older systems, Spaceworld ’99 demos, and more have started to appear online.

Also included are some massive leaks involving the Wii. It seems that the console’s full source code, design files, documentation, and essentially all material involved with its creation have started to spread.

The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley has announced Summer Game Fest, a digital “industry-wide celebration of video games”. Fans can expect “breaking news, in-game events, and free playable content” from various publishers and developers. The Verge reports that “Keighley will act as both curator and host for pre- and post-shows” for several companies, including Bethesda, Square Enix, and more.

Keighley said in a statement:

Like previous years, the Game Developers Conference was originally planned for March. However, due to the coronavirus, it was postponed. Organizers hoped to revive the show in August as GDC Summer, but as the health crisis continues to be an issue, it will now be digital-only.

A notice on the official GDC website reads:

Update: Eurogamer is running a similar story. The site says Nintendo “has told publishers set to reveal games during its showcase that it needs more development time on its first-party games.” Additionally, “publishers have been told not to wait if they wish to make their own reveals individually.”

Original: Usually when June rolls around, you can generally expect Nintendo to host a presentation of some kind. That used to be in the form of in-person conferences at E3, but in recent years, the company shifted to Nintendo Directs instead. However, there’s a chance that we won’t be getting any sort of presentation in June this year.

VentureBeat is reporting that Nintendo has told partner developers it will not hold a Nintendo Direct during the month. The site says “complications brought about from Japan’s work-from-home order as part of its attempts to mitigate COVID-19 are forcing Nintendo to push back its schedule.”
