Enter the Gungeon

At PAX Aus 2018 a couple of weeks ago, Eric managed to catch up with Dave Crooks from Dodge Roll. Crooks had plenty to say about Enter the Gungeon, but also the studio’s next game.

Crooks told us that a “pseudo sequel to Gungeon” could come next “in the sense that it would be like of a similar tone and a similar art style and such”. Also, while Enter the Gungeon didn’t have multiplayer, this is a possibility for the upcoming project since the team is currently building the proper tools for it this time around.

After 28 years of publication, Prima Games is closing its doors. DK is closing the company following a “significant decline” in the video game space. Prima Games will end in Spring 2019.

Prima has worked with many video game companies over the past three decades on strategy guides, including Nintendo. It’s unclear how Nintendo guides will be offered in the future, if at all.

Nintendo held its financial results briefing for the second quarter of the current fiscal year last week. As always, there was a Q&A session with inventors after the briefing. Nintendo has now provided an official transcript and English translation of the Q&A session, which you can find here. As is most often the case, don’t expect any breaking news from this, but there are a couple of interesting tidbits and insights into Nintendo’s business philosophy.

The primary developer of the Pokémon games is finally jumping on the social media train. Game Freak just opened its own YouTube and Twitter accounts. They already have a Facebook account which you can find here. They’re expanding their social presence a week before the Pokémon: Let’s Go games, and also ahead of their brand new RPG tentatively titled Town coming to Switch in 2019.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is half a year away from its premiere, but the movie is mostly shrouded in mystery. That could be changing very soon.

Alberta Film Ratings rated Detective Pikachu’s first trailer today, meaning we might be seeing it within the next few days. In fact, TrailerTrack speculates that it could show up within the next week. The trailer may very well be playing before screenings of the new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald film – another movie that Warner Bros. is distributing.

It’s only a matter of time until we get our first proper look at Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. The movie debuts on May 10.

Nintendo today announced the Nintendo Switch Holiday Experience, an opportunity for fans to go hands-on with previously-released and upcoming games. Select shopping centers across the United States will house demos for hit games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate starting November 10.
