My Nintendo adds LEGO Super Mario keychain in North America

My Nintendo has added in a brand new keychain as a way of promoting the LEGO Super Mario product line. If interested, you can claim it here. It’ll set you back 400 Platinum Points.
It turns out that this is actually just half of the equation. In the same style as LEGO Mario, there’s a similar keychain available for LEGO Luigi, but not on My Nintendo. The LEGO VIP rewards site is offering Luigi here for 500 VIP Points. If you sign up, you can also claim 200 Platinum Points on My Nintendo for free.
LEGO Super Mario sets were first unveiled back in March 2020. It’s been a long road since then, with several additional products added to the line. Most recently, LEGO Luigi joined in on the fun, though that only just happened this month.

More scrapped plans for the Tokyo Olympics unearthed featuring Nintendo

There’s been a lot of talk about plans to feature Nintendo at the Tokyo Olympics that ultimately fell through. Earlier this year, we heard about a segment with Mario that never came to be. More recently, Nintendo music was close to being a part of the opening ceremony, and Lady Gaga was even going to appear dressed with Mario’s hat.
Bunshun has now come forward with another major leak that details various changes for the Olympics. In a proposed video, Mario would be going back to Tokyo through a pipe. He would then be throwing a ball that is passed among various popular characters before finally returning to Mario’s hand. Mario from there dives into two screens and that’s the start of the actual opening ceremony.

Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai shares thoughts on retirement and more

Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada recently caught up with Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai for an interview in which the two developers discussed a bunch of different topics. The first part of the discussion was published last week, and the second portion just went up today.
Retirement is one notable topic brought up in today’s video. Here’s what Sakurai had to say on the subject:

Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps part 1 released

Castlevania: The Art of the Animated Series on the way

Fans of Netflix’s Castlevania series will be happy to hear that a new art book is on the way. Dark Horse’s 200-page hardcover book promises “concept art and commentary from all four seasons of the hit animated series.”

Suda51 says No More Heroes 4 is probably about ten years away, interested in a Shinobu spinoff

The wait between No More Heroes 1 and 2 wasn’t very long, as the sequel followed just a couple of years after the first game. However, the same can’t be said of the series’ latest entry. After we saw No More Heroes 2 in 2010, it’s taken over a decade to get No More Heroes 3. We may be in for a similar wait for a theoretical fourth game.
In an interview with GameXplain, director Suda51 said that No More Heroes 4 “would probably be in about 10 years or so, both in real life and in the game’s time.” He also has a potential idea in mind in which “Travis would go up against a super hardcore enemy up north who is basically the No More Heroes version of Drago from Rocky IV.”

For quite some time, we hadn’t seen SEGA do much with Sonic as he was known during the Genesis days. But the character was represented in Sonic Generations before starring in Sonic Mania, which featured remixed zones as well as a few brand new ones.
Thankfully, classic Sonic is still being considered for SEGA’s future. Series producer Takash Iizuka told Retro Gamer in a recent interview:

My Nintendo adds “Surfing Mario” wallpaper in North America
