Best Buy Canada teased a new game reveal through its Canadian Reward Zone Gamers Club Twitter account on Monday. That turned out to be Batman: Arkham Origins. Today, the retailer is teasing yet another gaming announcement.

Best Buy just wrote on Twitter:

Given that the first tease turned out to be related to a brand new game, Best Buy is probably teasing something similar here. FIFA 14? Something else?

Well, so much for the rumor that Criterion Games is working on a new version of Need for Speed: Underground. Criterion creative director Alex Ward took to Twitter earlier today in light of the recent speculation and indicated that the team has moved on from remakes and reboots.

He wrote:

Criterion is working on a new racer – it’s just not Underground.

For those unaware (like I was until this morning!), Nintendo used to host something they called “Nintendo Games Seminar” at the University of Japan where they would help and encourage aspiring game developers to make games of higher quality with a higher success rate. It was a way for Nintendo to not only influence the direction that young developers would take with their careers, but also to find new talent to hire when the seminar was over. Now, they’re restarting the program:

– Seminar will run from July 2013 to March 2014
– Must be an under/post-graduate student at a University in or around Tokyo or Osaka
– 12 participants per location (Tokyo/Osaka)
– Choose between programming, graphic design, or sound
– Seminar will focus on developing games with Nintendo’s “Web Framework”

Criterion Games’ next racer could be Need for Speed: Underground.

EGM got its hands on a logo – shown above – that could be included on the game’s boxart, but cautions that it could be a mockup. The publication has heard rumblings of Criterion working on Underground and the “image is most likely linked to a real project currently in development.”

Need for Speed: Underground would presumably be a unique take on the 2003 racer and its sequel. According to EGM, the new game iis set in an original Bayview setting rather than the area featured in Underground 2.

You may have heard the news that Nintendo’s stock is on the rise, up 11% in one day after they announced their third party support over the next couple of months via a press release. Don’t excited though: Japanese stock-buys aren’t suddenly loving the company again. The cause of the jump seems to be a shift in value of the yen against the euro, meaning that anyone exporting products from Japan to Europe will be seeing an increase in gains for the time being.

That’s not to say that people might not be suddenly on board with the Big N again or that the increase isn’t substantial (it’s the biggest jump since 2008), but chances are that this is more of a financial-jargon reason than anything we should be invested (pun) in as gamers. As Renegade Kid’s Jools Watsham put it:

It’s that time once again, folks. The first E3 2013 press conference has been dated. Today, Ubisoft confirmed that it will hold its annual E3 media briefing on June 10 – the day before E3 actually begins.

No word yet on what will be shown. Games such as Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Rayman Legends, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist are all likely.

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony Of The Goddesses will be returning to Los Angeles in June, just in time for E3.

For its revisit at The Greek Theatre, “newly approved material” is promised that explores “additional chapters from the Zelda franchise, while continuing to enjoy traditional performances of the show’s now-classic repertoire”.

Jason Michael Paul, CEO of Jason Michael Paul Productions, said:

“Los Angeles is one of the world’s epicenters for both music and gaming. To return here, especially under such popular demand and anticipation, is an honor. We are thrilled to present new and classic material to our extraordinary fans in this great city.”

Zelda fans can order tickets starting on April 13 at 10 AM. Tickets can be acquired at The Greek Theatre box office, online at Ticketmaster.com, at all Ticketmaster outlets or charge-by-phone at (800) 745-3000.

Square Enix registered a new trademark in Europe and also nabbed a domain name for something called “The Mad & The Monstrous”. Of course, no such title has been announced by the company thus far. Square Enix Japan is listed as the website’s holder for what it’s worth.

Armature Studio is on the rebound. After releasing just one game – Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS Vita – and the recent news of Maverick Hunter X’s cancellation, we learned that the company is hard at work on Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate for Warner Bros.

Blackgate isn’t the only title Armature is making. According to a press release covering today’s Arkham Origins announcement, the studio is “working on multiple titles.”. What else could the team be creating?
