3DS

This month’s EDGE review scores are as follows:

Dark Souls II – 9
Thief – 7
Yoshi’s New Island – 4
Earth Defense Force 2025 – 5
Strike Vector – 7
Strider – 7
TxK – 9

About the Yoshi’s New Island review: EDGE criticized a whole lot in its article – the lack of new ideas, the controls, level design, 3D implementation, and music.

EDGE finished its review with the following:

No one part of Yoshi’s New Island is ruinous by itself, but the sum is so much less than the 20-year-old parts from which it’s cobbled together. No one deserves to be duped by the Crayola box art into expecting a true sequel t oa childhood-gulping adventure, which is still counted among the most innovative 16bit games of the mid-’90s. Arzest has laid an egg here, but not of the golden variety.

Thanks to joclo for the tip.

  • Nobuo Matsumiya, who was the director of Yoshi’s Island DS and worked on level designs for New Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Yuya Sato, a level designer on New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Kenta Usui, a level designer on New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, and New Super Luigi U
  • Toyokazu Nonaka, who was most recently a producer on the new StreetPass games

It’s also noteworthy that Luminous Arc and Arc Rise Fantasia developer assisted with Yoshi’s New Island’s animations.

Of course, Arzest was the game’s main developer. The company’s Masahide Kobayashi directed the title.
