Wii U eShop

Update (10/5): Petite Games has now confirmed the same October 20 release date for Europe on Twitter.

Original (9/28): Super Destronaut 2: Go Duck Yourself, which we first heard about in April, will be added to the Wii U eShop next month. In North America, it’s now confirmed for October 20 with a $1.99 price point.

Super Destronaut 2 is an arcade space shooter that may remind you of Space Invaders. Here’s a brief description of the game:

“Collect power-ups to increase your firepower and multiplier coins to reach unbeatable high scores. Shoot those alien butts in Classic, Time Attack, Hardcore or Invaders mode and challenge your friends in Multiplayer mode. If you like classic arcade shooters or ducks, you will love Super Destronaut 2: Go Duck Yourself. PS: Don’t hurt the duck!”

Since Super Destronaut 2 is already approved in Europe, it’ll be out in PAL regions soon as well.

Pirate Pop Plus will launch for Wii U and New 3DS on October 20, 13AM Games announced today. The game will cost $4.99, and cross-buy will be supported. If you purchase one version, you’ll get the other at no extra cost.

Pirate Pop Plus is an 8-bit action game with Game Boy-era graphics. It’ll offer a “touch of Buster Bros (Pang Adventures), a bevy of weapons and power ups, and gravity-altering mechanics”. The main mechanic involves building chains and combos to achieve high scores while battling the Bubble Pirate and having to work through gravity that can turn you upside down or side to side at a moment’s notice.

Here’s the game’s premise:

Slime-san was minding its own business, sliming around in a peaceful forest when suddenly…A giant worm appeared and gobbled it up! And a rundown of features:

Indie developer Rainy Night Creations has announced Vaccine as its next project. It’s quite the change from the cheery and colorful nature of FreezeME, the studio’s 3D platformer that hit Wii U earlier this year.

Rainy Night Creations has shared the following information thus far:

Find a vaccine for your infected friend before the time runs out, but be aware your friend will relapse sooner or later and you will have to find a new vaccine in a new randomly rebuilt house. Will you be able uncover the mystery to save your friend once and for all!

Vaccine is a new approach on Survival Horrors inspired by those of the 90s era such as Resident Evil or Dino Crisis.Players can choose between the two members of a special bio-hazard rapid response team, each starting with their own unique differential abilities. They are trapped in a strange house populated by dangerous mutated creatures, they will have to find a vaccine for another team member who is infected with a deadly virus.

Unless the players uncover the mystery of the house, every time they bring back the vaccine, the infected team member will relapse and the user will be presented with a new randomly rebuilt house. The players will be able to gain experience points from different actions and use them on the skills they think will be more beneficial, bringing a more tactical approach compared to the games it takes inspiration from.

Vaccine is slated for Q1 2017 on Wii U and other platforms. View the first trailer below.

We heard more about the NES Classic Edition towards the end week through a new announcement from Nintendo. In the meantime, various outlets have also been sharing some hands-on impressions with some additional details.

Here’s a roundup of information from various outlets:

– Each game keeps its original presentation quirks (Ex: blank line on the left of screen in Mario Bros. 3)
– Press the reset button to visit the Home Menu
– Option to reduce screen burn-in
– Auto-shudown setting
– 8 languages
– English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Netherlands, Portuguese, and Russian
– Demo screensaver mode that shows a tug of war between Mario and Luigi if you leave it idle
– You’ll also see big pixel-art versions of characters
– Games run both brighter and sharper than on the Wii U Virtual Console
– No option to stretch games to fill a widescreen
– Option dims the screen after a certain amount of idle time
– Legal notices included
– Legal notices mentions an open-source license
– Nintendo didn’t say what’s in the machine, what emulator it’s running
– A little “lock” icon is on the four save slots
– This lets you lock the saved game in place so someone else can’t save their game on top of it

Lastly, we’ve attached some images comparing the NES Classic Edition to the Wii U Virtual Console below.

More: ,

This past week we found out about Mercenaries Saga 3, which lands on the Japanese 3DS eShop next week. Unsurprisingly, Circle Entertainment is localizing the game, and we might be seeing it very soon. The English version is almost ready to be submitted to Nintendo in both North America and Europe.

Aside from Mercenaries Saga 3, other Circle-published games are on the way. Mr. Pumpkin Adventure (Wii U) and Fairune 2 (3DS) should be out next month as well as ASH (3DS) for Europe.
