IGN has published a new interview with Nintendo’s Takashi Tezuka, who answered ten questions about New Super Mario Bros. U.

Tezuka commented on the origins of the Flying Squirrel Mario element, return of the traditional top-down map from Super Mario World/Mario 3, and more.

A roundup of the Q&A has been posted below.

Update: Finally starting (9:20 PM EDT / 6:20 PM PDT). It’ll be 90 minutes long.

Nintendo’s second E3-related event of the day begins in an hour. The company’s developer roundtables have been an annual tradition, and they usually bring along some interesting news. No idea if there will be any revelations this year, but we previously found out about Pikmin 3 and received the first piece of Skyward Sword concept art from the same event.

I’ll keep my eye out on anything interesting coming from the roundtable and will be sure to post it on NE.

We did post a Wii U release list earlier today confirming Runner 2 for Wii U, but here’s the official announcement:

Gaijin Games is proud to officially reveal that they will be self-publishing BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien on the Wii U.

“Ripe with the addictive stench of the classic RUNNER gameplay, Runner2 cuts the cheese with a new art style, Retro Challenges featuring music by Disasterpeace and an endless scroll of gameplay features, costumes and playable characters” -@MikeNRoush

“After announcing Runner2 for XBLA & PSN, we got so much incredible hate mail from our Nintendo fan base that we had to release this game for Wii U under fear of death!” -@AlexNoisy

A sequel to the award-winning and incredibly popular BIT.TRIP RUNNER, originally released on Nintendo’s WiiWare Service, Runner2 boasts:

As previously mentioned, Project Happiness is coming from Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada. His new studio, Toybox, is working on the title.

Project Happiness is without a release date and specific platforms, but it should be out next year for portable systems. A 3DS version should be likely in that case.

It’s more than possible that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy won’t be the only game of its kind.

Producer Ichiro Hazama has expressed interest in merging other Square Enix IPs with the “theat” brand.

Hazama told Kotaku:

“It’s not confirmed yet, but I do personally hope that I can do something related to theat for other titles, for other games.”

Hazama specifically cited Dragon Quest and Saga as possible franchises he’d be willing to work with. The same goes for Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and non-main Final Fantasy games such as Crystal Chronicles.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Scribblenauts, the best-selling, award-winning puzzle game franchise that challenged players to imagine anything and bring it to life, is back with Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Nintendo 3DS, featuring more expansive gameplay and setting no limits on how the player uses his or her imagination within the game.

Nintendo initially unveiled the Wii U by showing the console and its controller with a white coloring. At this year’s E3, we’ve also seen black editions of the hardware. Don’t think that the Wii U will be launching with two colors, though.

A Nintendo representative has said that the company intends to ship Wii U in white, but not in black. The black version will be coming at a later date – sometime in the future – as far as we can tell.

Mario Hits the Mushroom Kingdom Jackpot

Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, but this time, Mario has another objective. The Mushroom Kingdom is bursting with more gold coins than before. Each level is littered with gold as coins rain down from overhead pipes, trails of coins are left behind special gold enemies and gold pipes transport Mario into coin-filled caverns. It’s up to players to collect as many coins as possible throughout their adventure.

On the day of the annual Sticker Fest, Bowser decides to pull a prank and scatters six Royal Stickers across the land.
