Masahiro Sakurai

Some more teasing from Mr Sakurai today, this time pertaining to Little Mac:

The pink sweatshirt looks really cool on Little Mac, so you can use that outfit in this game… How can a pink sweatshirt look so cool?

He doesn’t stop there:

Looks like some of you noticed that this version of Little Mac wasn’t shown at E3. There are many things, like Link’s Skyward Sword tunic design I posted earlier, that haven’t been revealed yet.

A double dose of Smash Run news today, Sakurai details some of the enemy variants that will appear in the mode:

Here’s a Poppant, an enemy that appeared in the previous game in this series. Poppants will appear in Smash Run, scampering around as they drop a variety of items.

He continues with the second shot:

There are other bonus characters that appear in this game, too. Here’s an Iridescent Glint Beetle from the Pikmin series. Keep hitting it!! Keep hitting it for gold!!

In addition to today’s daily screenshot, Sakurai also announced that Japan will be getting their first hands-on with the latest generation of Smash games at this year’s Generation World Hobby Fair. It’s unknown whether this will be the same build as E3 or whether or not they will have something new in-store.

Mii fighters make a return today, Sakurai explains how they stack up next to Mario:

Some of the physical characteristics of Miis get carried over when you use them as Mii Fighters. The smaller ones become speed fighters and the bigger ones are more akin to power fighters.

Another New Super Mario Bros. U screenshot today, Sakurai details how players will be able to interact with Nabbit:

Here’s Nabbit, who appears in the Mushroom Kingdom U stage. You can’t see him, but Luigi is inside Nabbit’s bag.

Keeping things a little less traditional today, Sakurai details an interesting cameo to come to the 3DS version of Smash:

The all-time classic Balloon Fight returns to the modern age, now playable with four players. This is only a small piece of this jam-packed game.

Some Zelda news of a different kind through today’s daily screenshot, as Sakurai explains:

Here’s Link in an outfit based on his ordinary clothes in Skyward Sword! The art style looks a little different, but the actual clothing model is still his usual tunic.

I’m not quite sure what to make of today’s screenshot, Sakurai had the following to say:

Is this a match made in heaven? Remember, no matter how big you may be, there is always someone bigger.

Along with today’s screenshot, Sakurai passed along the following message on Miiverse:

Here’s Donkey Kong’s third standard special attack, Storm Punch!! Thanks to the customization options, each fighter is stocked with 12 different special moves. The number of attacks is pretty appalling.

We’ve made it so that customization options, including special attacks, will be disabled when you’re playing online in With Anyone mode. After all, we have to think about game balance, and it’s crucial for anonymous players to be able to use reliable tactics against one another. When you’re playing in single player, battling with friends online, or playing locally, you’re free to play however you want–with or without customization.

In this week’s issue of Famitsu, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS director Masahiro Sakurai wrote another column and discussed the addition of Miis to the game. You’ll find what he shared inside the magazine below.
