Nintendo Switch Online starts up new sets of Splatoon 3 icons

November 30 (2022): Nintendo Switch Online previously offered users icons for Splatoon 3, but the game is now a featured title once again. There’ll be five sets that rotate weekly on every Wednesday until January 9, 2023.
As usual, there are characters, backgrounds, and frames to choose from. Each one costs 5 or 10 Platinum Points as earned through My Nintendo. Once you’ve claimed an icon, it’s yours to claim forever – even if your subscription to Nintendo Switch Online expires.

Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis joining Nintendo Switch Online

Three new games have been announced for release on Nintendo Switch Online, with Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis joining the service. All three drop on March 12, 2024.
Dr. Mario represents the Game Boy. Mario Golf and Mario Tennis were originally made for the Game Boy Color. They released in 1990, 1999, and 2000 (2001 in the west) respectively.
All three titles are appearing on Nintendo Switch Online in celebration of MAR10 Day.

EarthBound series icons added to Nintendo Switch Online

February 21: EarthBound Beginnings is now a featured game on Nintendo Switch Online with a new round of icons. This may come as a surprise
EarthBound Beginnings was originally added to Nintendo Switch Online a year ago. However, Nintendo may have decided to start up some icons given that Mother 3 was made available on the service in Japan earlier today.

Super Mario World and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are now the latest featured games on Nintendo Switch Online for user icons, but there’s a little bit of a different spin this time around.
In the past members have been able to simply boot up the app and spend My Nintendo points to claim icons. However, as an added wrinkle, you’ll need to actually play the games.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong icons added to Nintendo Switch Online

February 15: Going along with the release of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, new icons for the game have just been added to Nintendo Switch Online.
It looks like there’ll only be a couple of waves for this one. Still, subscribers can spend their My Nintendo Platinum Points on different designs. A bunch of characters – including Mario, Donkey Kong, and Toad – can be picked up for 10 Platinum Points each. Backgrounds and frames are going for 5 Platinum Points each.
Mother 3 joins Nintendo Switch Online in Japan

Mother 3 has just come to Nintendo Switch Online, but only in Japan. Those with an active subscription to the Expansion Pack tier can access it now.
At least in the present, don’t expect an official English release in the west. Nintendo has yet to ever localize the game in English dating all the way back to the original Game Boy Advance launch.

Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll, R.C. Pro-Am, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Killer Instinct, and Blast Corps have all been announced for Nintendo Switch Online. The full set launches today.
These games were originally developed by Rare. Killer Instinct and Battletoads in Battlemaniacs are a part of the SNES app. Meanwhile, Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll and R.C. Pro-Am are available on NES. Finally, Blast Corps is for the N64 library.

EA Sports FC 24 is the next Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial

February 15: EA Sports FC 24 will be offered as the next Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial in Europe, it’s been announced. It can be downloaded here.
Starting today, service members can play through the entire game at no extra cost. Additionally, if you choose to purchase the title, all save data will transfer over. There is no sale at the moment, but that could follow soon.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom icons added to Nintendo Switch Online

May 11: Just in time for the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comes a new set of user icons on Nintendo Switch Online.
As usual, icons are available for characters, backgrounds, and frames. Most cost 10 Platinum Points on My Nintendo. However, the backgrounds and frames are 5 Platinum Points. If you redeem any icon any your Nintendo Switch Online subscription expires, the icons will still be yours to keep.
Eastward is Europe’s next Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial

Eastward will be made available as Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial in Europe, it’s been announced.
The game can be accessed with a subscription starting today. Like other trials, you do not need a subscription to the Expansion Pack tier. Also, all progress can transfer to the full version.
