Happy 10th birthday, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door!

ON THIS EPISODE: We’re back! For a moment. To signify our triumphant return we bring you one of the funnier episodes we’ve ever had amidst a flurry of game discussion about Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Bayonetta 2, Castlevania, Pokémon Omega Ruby, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. It’s a bit tangled and messy, but what are you gonna do? Fire us?

PLUS: A little bit of podcast navel-gazing and story time as we discuss how things went for 102 episodes, our favorite moments, some behind-the-scenes trivia, and the future of the show.

AND: A huge pile of listener mail with lots of kind words about the show, discussion of Zelda, our lesser-known game recommendations, our favorite eShop games, and much more. Will we ever be back? Nobody gets to know that except lord Elrond himself.

The Pokémon Company announced today that they have shipped over 7.7 million units of the latest Pokémon games, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, since their release on November 21st. A week ago we reported that the games’ sales had topped 3 million, so it looks like last week’s European release gave the games quite a decent boost. The previous Pokémon games, X and Y, are still the highest selling 3DS games with 13.29 million copies sold, so it’ll be interesting to see if these new remakes manage to catch up to them. Given that the Pokémon company are listing Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire’s sales as a 135% increase over X and Y, it could be a possibility. For a comparison, the original Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire versions on the Game Boy Advance collectively sold 16.22 million units worldwide, making them the best-selling titles on the console.

The special editions are based on Groudon and Kyogre, each with a corresponding felt faceplate. They will also contain a special code for the exclusive Home screen theme pictured above. Currently these are exclusive to these special editions, and will be availible at Pokemon Centers across Japan on November 21.

As if today’s Smash demo wasn’t enough, today info came by way of the latest CoroCoro magazine that Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will also be getting their own demo. Those that purchase the latest issue of Shonen Sunday magazine (due out October 15th) will get a serial code granting access to the trial version of the Pokemon remakes, which will give players the choice of a Grovyle, Combusken or Marhstomp to progress through the demo with, the end reward being a Mega Evolution. No word on whether this promo is exclusive to Shonen Sunday or whether or not it will go public on the eShop at a later date
