At the 2015 Pokemon World Championships, a couple of invitation players shared their impressions of the game and answered a few different questions. The official video can be viewed below.

This week, Famitsu has an interview with Pokemon president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara. Ishihara touched on Pokemon Shuffle, Pokken Tournament, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon, and a bit about the future – including an extremely brief NX name-drop.

Regarding Pokemon Shuffle, Ishihara reconfirmed that the game has reached five million downloads. The title, which just recently hit smart devices, was originally intended to be released from the start on smartphones and 3DS. The 3DS demographic is more around those at middle school while smartphones users are geared more toward adults. The main message they wanted to convey is that the app can be cleared from the start with no charges.

Pokken Tournament came about from a desire to see more realistic Pokemon movements. Even though it’s made by the Tekken team, it has a different flavor and feel than that series and it does not necessarily appeal to a different demographic. Ishihara points out that it’s easy to understand fighting games, and its systems are straightforward and simple to pick up on.

If you’re in the New York City area next week, you may have an opportunity to go hands-on with Pokken Tournament. As was announced on Twitter, Dave & Busters will have a playable demo of the arcade version at its Times Square location.

The full tweet is as follows:

Dave & Busters has not yet said if and when Pokken Tournament will be available at its other locations in America.

Bandai Namco has posted a new Pokken Tournament trailer. In the latest video attached below, we’re able to get another look at Pikachu Libre. The character was originally shown in the debut Wii U trailer last month.

Pokemon Tournament’s Wii U version is launching worldwide next spring. The fighter is also on arcades in Japan, but its future in the west is unclear.

Take a look at this exchange between Nintendo World Report and The Pokemon Company’s J.C. Smith:

Nintendo World Report (NWR): So the whole Dave & Buster’s thing…

J.C. Smith (JS): Mhm.

NWR: How that’s moving towards arcades presumably next year. We’ll see how that goes. Was that organized by The Pokémon Company International also?

JS: It was not actually. In fact, I haven’t been involved in that, but I’ve been told that the arcade machine is not coming to the U.S., so I don’t know exactly what the plan is. But that was a long while ago, so who knows what may have changed. You know, you can’t stop someone from buying an arcade system so who knows what’s down the road.

NWR: So last you heard, there were no plans.

JS: Yeah, I haven’t been working closely on the arcade side at all because, really, I never worked on the arcade side but we’ll see. I think that will be handled by Bandai Namco. But I’d have to follow-up with you on that.

We had originally heard from Dave & Buster’s Kevin Bachus that Pokken Tournament would be tested in their arcades. Is that still in the cards? I don’t think anyone can say for certain at this point.

Yesterday, the 2015 Pokemon World Championships began, and Pokken Tournament was featured in a big way thanks to a surprise Invitational. We now have the full recording – see it below.

To kick off the 2015 Pokemon World Championships, The Pokemon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara as well as Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino confirmed Pokken Tournament for Wii U. The full announcement can now be seen below.

Pokken Tournament is coming to Wii U, it was announced at the 2015 Pokemon World Championships. The game will be available spring 2016 worldwide.

For screenshots and the official announcement, continue on below.

A trademark for Pokken Tournament was registered in Europe 2 days ago. It’s not clear from the trademark itself whether this for the arcade version or a possible Wii U port, but the former seems more likely. The trademark holder is the Pokemon Company, not Nintendo, who usually register the trademarks for the Pokemon games.

Also, the trademark mentions the following:

Near field communication (NFC) technology-enabled devices, namely, key chain tags, key chains, key fobs, key tags, key rings and key holders, and figurines, to facilitate the transmission and recording and exchange of video game content.

You might be inclined to think that this refers to amiibo, but in Japan, Pokken arcade machines also have NFC functionality with something called BANA Passport, a card where users can store saved game data and transfer them from one arcade machine to another.

Either way, we’ll have to wait until an official announcement from Nintendo until we know for sure. We will keep you posted.
