Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham explained on Twitter earlier today why the team decided to remake the original Moon before moving on to the actual sequel. He said:

Renegade Kid’s upcoming first-person shooter announcement might just be “Moon Chronicles”. Last Thursday, the studio filed a trademark for the name in the US and it was entered in the Trademark Reporting and Monitoring System (TRAM) yesterday.

Interestingly enough, Renegade Kid regained the publishing rights to Moon today. That’s probably not a coincidence!

Now the question is whether Moon Chronicles is an updated version of the DS original or a true follow up…

We knew it was coming, but Renegade Kid has officially regained the publishing rights to Moon.

Studio co-founder Jools Watsham wrote on Twitter just a few minutes ago:

Moon was one of the earliest titles produced by Renegade Kid. Mastiff published the game in North America, but the company’s agreement only lasted five years. Moon came out in 2009, so Renegade Kid now controls the IP’s rights.

Although Watsham noted on Twitter that he’s not a programmer, he did say, “from what I gather the Wii U is not more difficult to develop for than other platforms.” Simple enough!
