We don’t need to point out how quiet Retro Studios has been since 2014. That was when the company’s last game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, first appeared on Wii U.
Retro Studios is back in the news with some new speculation that has surfaced over the past couple of days. Alleged leaks claim that they’re working on the new Switch game Star Fox Grand Prix.

First week sales for the Switch version of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze were reported from Japan this week. Between April 29 and May 3, the game sold nearly 90,000 copies.
That’s a significant increase compared to the original 2014 release. On Wii U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold just 35,000 copies in its first week.
The sell-through rate is also more favorable. The game sold through 65% of its initial shipment on Switch, according to Dengeki. In contrast, the Wii U version had a sell-through rate of just 35%.

It’s unclear just how much Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold during its first week in the UK. However, we do know that it was towards the top of the charts.
GamesIndustry adds that the new Switch version “already accounts for nearly 17% of the total number of copies the game has sold in the UK (physical units only). Week one sales of the Switch version were 53.7% higher than week one sales of the Wii U version (although Switch does have a considerably higher install base).”
We should have an idea as to how Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze performed on Switch in Japan this week. As for the US, we’ll need to wait for next month’s NPD report.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze’s boxart has a couple of random differences in North America and Europe
Posted on 6 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Random, Switch | 0 comments
The boxart for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is mostly the same in North America and Europe. There are a couple of differences though, and both are pretty random.
The first difference concerns the positioning one Donkey Kong’s foot. Nintendo also went with a slightly different approach to the text pointing out the new Funky Kong mode. We have a look at both boxart versions above.
Fun fact: the foot positioning was actually the same for the original Wii U release. Fans seem to be noticing it more on Switch, however.
