Chart-Track has published a listing of the top 50 best-selling games in the UK during 2015. Just one Nintendo-made title made the list, but a number of third-party releases are sprinkled in as well.

On with the list:

Additional information from the December NPD report has emerged. We have sales for two Wii U titles that debuted in North America, plus lifetime sales for a bunch of 3DS and Wii U titles.

Leaks from NPD reveal that Xenoblade Chronicles X sold over 200,000 copies in the United States last month. Devil’s Third, on the other hand, had sales over 3,000 units. Neither figure includes digital sales.

The same source has also come through with lifetime sales figures for a multitude of 3DS and Wii U titles. The lineup includes Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D (almost at 1 million), Yo-kai Watch, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, Splatoon, Yoshi’s Woolly World, Shovel Knight, and more. Head past the break for the full list.

From a Nintendo perspective, there’s not too much to report on from the latest NPD sales. Wii U and 3DS games were completely absent from the December chart as well as overall top 10 sales in 2015. However, GamesBeat did manage to obtain an interesting piece of information from analyst Liam Callahan.

Callahan said that Wii U experienced its second-best month “in terms of new physical software unit sales.” The holiday season likely played a big role in that, as well as games such as Super Mario Maker.

Update: No separate post for the top 10 in December. No Wii U/3DS game (including third-parties) made the list unfortunately. Same goes for the full 2015 year top 10.

Super Mario Maker has sold over one million copies in the United States alone, Nintendo has announced. That news comes as part of the December 2015 NPD report, which we should be hearing more about shortly.

Five other Wii U games have also reached Super Mario Maker’s milestone. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Splatoon have all sold more than one million copies in the United States.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes has sold over one million units in the UK, Warner Bros. Interactive announced. The game saw the second-largest LEGO launch thus far, falling only behind LEGO Indiana Jones. 84,400 units were sold upon release.

In a statement passed along to MCV, sales and marketing director Spencer Crossley said:

“The game’s appeal is a unique blend of clever humour and high quality gameplay from TT Games, along with the universal charm of LEGO and the hugely popular Marvel Universe.”

A new LEGO game based on Avengers, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, is due out later this month.

In a new developer blog, Juicy Beast stated that Toto Temple Deluxe “didn’t sell very well”. The developer shared some potential reasons as to why the game didn’t perform as well as the studio had hoped.

Here’s a notable excerpt from the piece:

There’s a good possibility that the game didn’t have good enough “hooks” to captivate people’s attention. Sure, “fighting your friends to put an egg-laying goat on your head” sounds funny and weird, but it doesn’t really give you a clear idea of what it’s like to play Toto Temple Deluxe.

At the end of the day, we think the biggest factor is because it’s a local-multiplayer game with no online play. The game is aiming at a pretty niche audience by requiring actual human friends to play, and we can’t ignore the impact it has on sales. A quick look at comments on YouTube, Reddit and such, and it’s obvious that a lot of people are simply not buying the game for this very reason (that along a lack of solo experience).

On top of all this, we also think the game came out almost 2 years too late. Back in 2014, when the local-multiplayer boom was happening, Toto Temple Deluxe’s development felt more logical. Today, it feels a bit out of place, as we think a lot of player might have bought popular local-multiplayer games in the past, then realised that they would play them less and less frequently. We definitely can’t blame them, since it’s pretty much the same for us.

There’s plenty more about the creation of Toto Temple Deluxe in Juicy Beast’s post. You can read the full thing right here.
