Splatoon 2

The latest Splatfest in Splatoon 2 took place in both North America and Europe this weekend. After a day of fun battles, the results are in.

This week’s Splatfest asked players how they prefer their orange juice. You could have sided with either Team Pulp or Team No-Pulp.

A few weeks ago, modders and hackers managed to get a rudimentary version of an unreleased Splatoon 2 mode up and running. A second similar mode has been given the same treatment.

Nintendo has announced that the Splatoon 2 European Championship will be held once again next year. The event will be back starting in Spring 2019.

Once again, the “very best teams from across the continent” will be competing. Other than that, no further information has been provided.

At E3 last week, Nintendo announced that updates will continue for Splatoon 2 throughout the rest of 2018. As part of that, we first heard about a new map, which is titled New Albacore Hotel.

A bizarre situation relating to New Albacore Hotel took place last night. While in league for zones, a group of players were forced into Turf War on the new map.

In Inkopolis Square, the main hub of Splatoon 2, players can share their fan art, in-game memes, and helpful tips with other users. This builds a sense of community amongst players, and helps the Splatoon universe feel vibrant and alive. Unfortunately, this also means that some flagrant messages find their way into the game’s lobby, and within the multiplayer maps where these messages also appear.

Speaking with Kotaku, Splatoon producer Hisashi Nogami explained that posts that receive more “likes” naturally appear more often; in theory, this means that the system can be used to upvote hateful comments “kind of like the real world.”

You can make your voice heard next weekend starting at 9 PM PT on June 22 / 12 AM ET on June 23. The event will last for a full day, and we’ll have the results soon after.

At E3, Nintendo announced that they would continue supporting Splatoon 2 with free weapon and stage updates until the end of this year. Nintendo of Europe shared a brief look at one of the upcoming new weapons on their Twitter account today. The Explosher seems to be a slosher-type weapon with a long range whose shots explode a bit on impact:

The next Splatoon 2 update has arrived. Just a few moments ago, Nintendo issued version 3.1.0.

Today’s update has one big element in particular, which is support for Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion. A bunch of changes have been implemented as well.
