SD Gundam Battle Alliance review

System: Switch
Release Date: August 25, 2022
Developer: Artdink
Publisher: Bandai Namco

The SD (Super Deformed) Gundam spinoff franchise has never achieved the same renown as its parent franchise outside of Japan – where at one point it actually eclipsed the popularity of the main franchise in terms of sales for a brief time – but has nonetheless managed to establish itself as a presence in its own right over the years, and has spawned several video games. SD Gundam Battle Alliance marks the third SD Gundam title to release on the Switch, but the first to release on the console in the west. Was it worth the wait?

To celebrate the Pokemon Masters Tournament in the anime, Ash’s current team is being distributed via event code for Pokemon Sword and Shield. Despite it being targeted in Japan, it seems players worldwide can take advantage. Whilst Ash’s Dragonite will remain live until September 8, Ash’s Gengar is now being distributed for the next two weeks.

The creature comes in at level 80 and has the moves Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Dazzling Gleam, and Will-o-wisp. It has the ability Cursed Body and is capable of Gigantamaxing.

Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden, the third game in the Voice of Cards series, has been announced, and will release digitally for Switch via the eShop on September 13. The game was previously leaked via a Playstation Store listing last month, and has now been confirmed for release on Switch by Square Enix. As with the previous two entries in the series, the game is an RPG stylized with cards to mimic traditional tabletop storytelling, and will be a standalone experience with no connection to prior works.
