Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has had continued success with Switch since the system launched in 2017. The pattern has continued through this year, and 2020 may actually be the platform’s best year yet from a sales perspective.

That’s further backed up by the NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella. In a tweet shared earlier today, Piscatella revealed that in the United States, Switch sold more hardware units in Q3 than any platform since the DS in 2009.

2020 has been a strong year for the gaming industry overall. Total industry consumer spending on video gaming in the U.S. reached $11.2 billion in the third quarter, a 24 percent increase year-over-year.

Save me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San

Nicalis teamed up with Christophe Galati on the retro-inspired platformer Save me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San. Now with the game having just reached its second anniversary, a big change has happened.

It’s confirmed that Nicalis no longer has the rights to Save me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San, which has resulted in the game being temporarily pulled from the Switch eShop. However, Galati intends to bring the title back through self-publishing. Additionally, a patch is planned that he was not able to implement due to some unwillingness from Nicalis.

It wasn’t until Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield that the series received major DLC. Whereas past entries often saw a third game/version later on, the two Switch titles were instead given expansions in the form of The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.

Game Informer recently asked The Pokemon Company about this new approach. Regarding DLC and whether they take the approach of traditional follow-up third games, they said:
