Klonoa origins

Klonoa series director Tsuyoshi Kobayashi has provided new insight into how the franchise came to be. Kobayashi spoke about this in a recent issue of Lost In Cult.

Interestingly, Bandai Namco was originally working on a game that would have been based on a different IP. However, after that didn’t work out, they had to replace the characters. That led the team to hold an internal competition to create a new character that would eventually become Klonoa.

Mario movie Jakks Pacific toys

All sorts of promotions and products are planned for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, including a new wave of toys from Jakks Pacific. IGN has now offered up a first look, pictured above.

Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach are all set to receive toys. With Mario, he’s holding a plunger. Luigi comes equipped with his flashlight. Toad features his backpack and frying pan, while Peach’s iconic parasol can be seen.

Sonic boost

With the Sonic games, something that’s been pretty common across many of the series entries is the boost mechanic. This lets players move about at an incredibly fast speed and it’s pretty helpful for taking down enemies.

Interestingly, it’s possible that SEGA could do away with the mechanic in future Sonic games. Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto, who has been pretty talkative with fans on Twitter, has indicated that a lot of consideration was given to boost in the latest title, and the team ultimately decided to include it. However, he did say that he’d be interested in making a Sonic game that doesn’t have boost.

Since it’s January, a topic of discussion that tends to pop up around this time is when the next Nintendo Direct will be. That’s not much of a surprise, especially since fans are always curious as to what Nintendo has in store. It’s not out of the question for a new presentation to happen as we start the new year so that we can get a better idea as to what’s planned from a first and third-party perspective.

Mario Kart statue

First 4 Figures is cooking up another Nintendo statue, this time for Mario Kart.

The product is said to be filled with all sorts of touches and details – “from fabric and stitching on his bright red cap to the smoke coming off of the spinning wheels of his kart.” As for the kart, it’s “modeled after the classic Pipe Frame design, with lifelike parts and details.”

Walupeach

A 2008 Nintendo Dream interview is making the rounds due some information that it contains regarding what could have been another character known as Walupeach. Twitter user gosokkyu shared some translation tidbits.

The discussion is with Shugo Takahashi, a co-founder of Camelot. Given how Nintendo was open to good ideas, it turns out that a pitch was made for Walupeach who would have been included in their next game. However, Mario creator vetoed the idea before they could even show him their design. Apparently Miyamoto felt that it would end up like Doronjo.
