General Nintendo

Don’t expect Nintendo to pursue 4K gaming anytime soon. While that’s something other console manufacturers are starting to focus on, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime believes that the audience is currently “a bit too limited.”

That’s what Reggie shared with The Verge during an interview last week. He stressed the importance of Nintendo reaching as many people as possible and having them engage and enjoy the company’s various games.

Reggie’s full comments:

“The Nintendo mission is to reach as many consumers as possible and to have them engage and have fun with our [intellectual property]. That’s what we try and do. So inherently, we go for a more mainstream audience. Inherently, we want our products to be affordable. We want our products to be easy to pick up and experience, low learning curve. We want our IP to shine as we deliver these experiences.

At Wonder Festival earlier this year, we heard about a new Ice Kirby Nendoroid. Pre-orders are now open, and the figure may ship at the very end of the year.

You can reserve the Ice Kirby Nendoroid at the following retailers:

Play-Asia
Good Smile

And below are some new photos:

We also may as well mention that the standard Kirby Nendoroid is seeing a reprint. Pre-orders are open for that as well below:

A couple of months ago, we heard that Nintendo could be planning a SNES Mini / SNES Classic Edition. No details were provided at the time, but a release by the end of the year is apparently planned.

Destructoid now has its own report stating that the SNES Mini will be available this year – specifically in time for the holidays. The site spoke with three different GameStop managers who said that the hardware is coming. It’s unclear how much they know and if what was mentioned can be trusted, but one manager said that Nintendo partially wants “foot traffic”.

Nintendo revealed the NES Classic Edition in mid-July last year for a November launch. If the SNES Mini is happening this year, perhaps an announcement could be made next month.

It was rumored a couple of years ago that MercurySteam attempted to pitch a Metroid game for Wii U and 3DS. Then in 2016, the studio denied that report. What makes things really interesting is that, last week, Nintendo and MercurySteam announced Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS.

So what happened here? Liam Robertson, who reported on the rumor originally, shared his latest findings in a new video.

The Skyward Sword Link amiibo is now available on Amazon. However, you’ll need to be a Prime member to place an order. You can do so right here.

Jakks Pacifics’ latest Splatoon products are nearly here. GameStop has listings up for the Splatoon Splattershot Mini and Splatoon Splattershot Blaster that will be sold on July 4. The two are priced at $30 and $15 respectively.

Both of these products are a part of the World of Nintendo line. They fire actual ink, and at least when it comes to the Splattershot Mini, it can shoot up to 50 shots.

Three new Zelda amiibo arrived today. You can pick up figures for Twilight Princess, Majora’s Mask, and Skyward Sword variations of Link. View an unboxing video below.

A new interview with Nintendo senior director of corporate communications Charlie Scibetta is up from Ars Technica. The two chatted about the Switch stock situation, the NES Classic Edition, and fan games.

Continue on below for Scibetta’s comments. You can also read the original article here for a little bit of discussion about 3DS.

When Capcom was developing Mega Man 4 many years ago, the original plan was to include a sphinx mid-boss. Ultimately, it wasn’t included in the final game.

Someone actually took footage of the enemy way back in 1991, and that video is now online. It’s the first time we’re able to see it in motion.

Software developer Abhishek Singh has come up with a neat new way of using Hololens. Singh recreated World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros., and projected the game’s obstacles and objects as holograms in New York’s Central Park.

It’s not perfect – you can technically walk around the obstacles for instance. Nonetheless, it’s an admirable fan project, and perhaps something that could be expanded upon in the future.
