In the U.S., amiibo led the way in dollar sales out of all interactive gaming toy offerings during the month of May. It’s the first time since the figures launched that this feat was accomplished.

Thanks to amiibo’s strong performance, interactive gaming toy sales as a whole rose 73 percent in the U.S. last month.

NPD Group’s Liam Callahan said:

“May 2015 was a positive month for video game accessory sales, with dollar sales up 20 per cent. The top 5 accessory types: Interactive Gaming Toys; point cards; gamepads; headsets/headphones; and power supplies, all experienced year-over-year growth. Interactive gaming toy sales experienced stellar growth of 73 per cent in May 2015 as Nintendo’s amiibo accessories led dollar sales for the first time since launch.”

It was recently announced that Armature will be porting Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to Wii U. That also means that the developer will be working with Unreal 4 on Nintendo’s console for the first time.

Since Unreal Engine 4 games on Wii U is a relatively new thing, Armature said it will be sharing its code with other developers. But what exactly does this mean? In an update posted to the company’s website, Armature explained:

We didn’t provide very many details, and there’s been some confusion, so we just wanted to clear a few things up.

What we are planning to do is share the WiiU and Vita modifications to UE4 for Bloodstained after the game ships with authorized developers for the respective platforms (and we’re not sure how we’ll deliver the code, it’s a bit complicated because of all the parties involved).

Arc System Works has announced the acquisition of the Double Dragon, Super Dodge Ball, River City Ransom, and Kunio-kun franchises. Previously, Million was the most recent rights holder. This move became effective as of June 1, 2015.

Masahiro Sakurai’s latest Famitsu column has now been translated in full. Two big topics were addressed in his piece: those who say Sakurai has a bias for certain characters, and overall game balance.

Continue on below to check out the column transcript. The full translation comes courtesy of Source Gaming.

When it comes to Smash, every once in a while people will wrongly direct their anger towards me. They accuse me of things such as giving preference or strength to the characters that I’ve worked on in the past—in other words, the Kirby and Kid Icarus series characters. Oh my.

However, if I had worked on the Mario series, people would say, “You’re favoring Mario too much,” wouldn’t they? The same would hold true for Fire Emblem, Pokémon or Starfox. The truth is, though, I put a lot of work into all the characters. It’s a mix of labor, love, and fine tuning.

For the first Nintendo World Championships, three winners were selected. Jeff Hansen won in the 11 and under category, Thor Aackerlund was victorious in the 12-17 category, and Robert Whiteman took home the prize in the 18 and older category.

With the Nintendo World Championships’ return this weekend, Hansen and Aackerlund are returning for the festivities. Both will be present as guests of honors.
