News

A previous issue of Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream featured an interview with some of the core staff involved in the production of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity where they spoke candidly about their experiences developing the game. The discussion included development producer Masaki Furusawa, director Ryouta Matsushita, producer Yousuke Hayashi, and art director Yuu Oohashi.

One of the team’s biggest challenges while developing the game is probably not something you’d expect – the grass. According to the staff, it took the team half of the development time to get it right and involved hundreds of people from departments all over Koei Tecmo.

Here’s our translation of that excerpt:

Theatre of Sorrows

Publisher PlayWay, along with developers Cat-astrophe Games and MobilWay, have announced Theatre of Sorrows. The lovecraftian 2D roguelite is now in development for Switch.

Theatre of Sorrows stars Killian, who travels to the mysterious island of Esha after a dark cult abducts his sister. This particular location is “a place forgotten by even gods themselves, where the unspeakable ritual is about to take place.” The game will have you following Killian and Eileen as they journey through Esha and dive into dark secrets of its inhabitants.

Triangle Strategy boxart

To kick off 2022, Square Enix has posted the official boxart for Triangle Strategy. Although it’s in Japanese, the same design is expected to be used in other regions as well – so pretty much everything should be the same.

Here’s some information about Triangle Strategy:

Shin Megami Tensei V has sold over 800,000 copies, Atlus has announced. That total appears to be based on worldwide data.

We also have a bit of further insight thanks to the 2021 SEGA Sammy Management Meeting, which was held on December 14. In a report related to the event published online, a note mentions: “At this point, the marketing of each title has been very successful and the sales status of ‘Shin Megami Tensei V’, which was just released recently has been quite good.”

sonic frontiers delayed

As it turns out, SEGA internally delayed Sonic Frontiers in order to improve the game’s quality.

That nugget of information was revealed during an investor Q&A held last month. Speaking about the upcoming game, SEGA explained:

Unusual Findings

Publisher Buka Entertainment and developer Epic Llama Studios have announced that Unusual Findings, a point-and-click adventure game, is coming to Switch. A release date has not yet been confirmed.

Unusual Findings is inspired by the 90s, but has a retro 80s style. You can read more about what the game has to offer below.

2021 edge awards top 10 games

This month’s issue of EDGE serves as a wrap-up for 2021 as it not only contains the magazine’s awards, but also the top 10 games.

We see Monster Hunter Rise getting some love here as it was selected as “Nintendo Game of the Year” – outdoing titles like Metroid Dread. Capcom’s title also places in EDGE’s top ten for 2021. The publication thought highly of Chicory: A Colorful Tale as well given how it was selected for the #2 spot.
