Sometime this week, Pokemon GO is getting a big update to introduce over 80 creatures from the second generation of Pokemon games. New features are on the way as well. Niantic has now issued some screenshots of what’s to come, and we have them below.

Update: Added in the full announcement below.

Original: Niantic announced today that Pokemon GO will be adding 80 new Pokemon from the second generation of Pokemon games this week. Additionally, new features are on the way.

Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile are just some of the new Pokemon that can be encountered. New evolutionary items and berries are coming to the game as well. The former will help players complete their Johto collections, while the latter will make battles feel a little more challenging.

Pokemon GO will now have the Nanab Berry and Pinap Berry. With the Nanab Berry, Pokemon will be slowed down so it’s less likely for them to run off. Pinap Berries give players twice as much candy upon a successful catch.

New customization options can be purchased as well. This will allow users to further customize their looks.

It was recently announced that missing Mega Stones for Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon would be distributed as part of online competitions. Now we have some clarity as to how this is being done.

Mega Stones will be handed out through two means:

– Given as a present to players of Online Competitions, such as with the Mawilite and Beedrillite in the upcoming 2017 International Challenge February competition; a limited amount of players will get the code ahead of a wait period of 1 to 2 months before all players get the code
– Through a code that will be given to all players through various events/online postings with no wait period

As Serebii points out, the method will vary depending on the Mega Stone and they intend to go through these methods until summer.

Aside from the Pokemon Sun/Moon news, Pokemon Duel should also be receiving an update tomorrow. The game will be updated to 3.0.2 and implements some balance changes.

Here’s the rundown from Serebii:

The new Fire Emblem Heroes “Family Bonds” event kicked off a couple of hours ago, bringing in new characters and maps. Get a closer look with the footage below.

Following up on last week’s big Miitomo update, another patch for the mobile app can now be downloaded. Version 2.2.1 is out now. Nintendo says that it implements various bug fixes, but that’s pretty much it.

Miitomo has been updated with new content. Players can nab the latest items in the Miitomo Drop stage, “Explore the unknown! Space Style #2”.

Available items include:

– Alien hood
– Alien costume
– Astro hero space helmet
– Astro hero spacesuit

Users can select Miitomo Drop stages from the Shop tab. Miitomo coins or game tickets are needed to play.

Fire Emblem Heroes is making a change in early March. In a notice sent out to players, Nintendo says that “Units will be able to earn EXP when defeating foes that are much lower levels.”

The same notice also contains information about a couple of extensions and rewards. Nintendo states the following:

– The App-Release Bonus period will be extended to 3/14/17 at 2:59 AM.
– The Worldwide Launch Celebration will be extended indefinitely, so the stamina cost for the Training Tower will stay halved and for equipping skills will remain at 0.
– Rewards will be added to the Training Tower between Monday at 2:00 AM and Tuesday at 1:59 AM, starting 2/20/17 at 2:00 AM.

A new special map, Part 2: Launch Celebration, is available for Fire Emblem Heroes. The map has a normal and hard versions, each of which will earn you 3 orbs for beating the first time. The map will be available until March 14.

At the start of July, Pokemon GO will be celebrating its first anniversary. The game has no doubt been an incredible success so far over the past several months, but players have been waiting on new features, including the ability to trade Pokemon.

Speaking with Waypoint, Niantic CEO John Hanke did say that new features are due out soon in “an abbreviated form”, with more complete versions to follow later.

Hanke told the site:

“It has far surpassed our expectations in just turning everybody onto the potential for games that break out of the screen. But the priority for Pokémon Go now is to build in those things that reward co-operative gameplay, and make experiences available that offer more depth than just the capturing mechanic.”

Miitomo has been updated with more content. Users will find returning stages with more items.

“Swords and Sorcery! Miitomo RPG” is the returning stage theme. They provide the following:

– Villager outfit
– Hero tee
– Wandering swordsman outfit
– Battle-scarred sword
– Dancer’s top (set)
– Dancer’s pants (set)
– Noble knight’s armor
– Queen’s sword
– Mage’s hood
– Mage’s robe
– Evil king tee
– Mage’s staff

The returning stages will be available until February 14 at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET.
