Switch 2 Launch Review

A little while ago, we talked about the pros and cons of Mario Kart World two months after its original release. That’s not the only thing we’re looking at two months later, though – today, we’re remembering and evaluating the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch period (even though it hasn’t been all that long just yet).

Needless to say, it’s been a very long time since all-new Nintendo hardware has launched. Sure, we’ve seen things like Alarmo, but Nintendo Switch 2 was the first major hardware the company had released in eight years. And as you probably remember very well, the lead-up to release was crazy, to say the least. In 2024, it was pretty clear that Nintendo was going light to prepare resources for the new console. A big chunk of the new games were remasters or remakes – Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door are a few notable examples.

Future of amiibo

Recently, we received the rather unfortunate news that the newest wave of amiibo has received a price increase. At the time of writing, the new Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom amiibo cost $30 each, while the Street Fighter figures (which are slightly larger than your average amiibo) are a whopping $40 each. On top of that, there have been general increases for legacy figures and two-packs as part of Nintendo’s general pricing increases, of which you can see the full list here.

This is almost certainly due to the tariffs that have been placed on China, which have gone up and down. If these tariffs remain, we could see amiibo take on a completely different form in the coming years. Take a look at the Tears of the Kingdom amiibo, for example – the figurines themselves look nice, but in-game, all they do is unlock an exclusive Paraglider skin – otherwise, they drop random items once per day. That’s certainly not worth $30 to most players, and we could see that reflected in how well they sell.

Pokemon Legends Z-A how Mega Evolution works

Hands-on impressions are starting to come in for Pokemon Legends: Z-A with the game making a playable appearance at the Pokemon World Championships, and new details have surfaced about how Mega Evolution works.

Mega Evolution is one of the key mechanics in the upcoming title. A feature returning from Pokemon X and Y, some creatures can become stronger and chance appearance when they transform. There’ll even be some new Mega Evolutions this time around.

Here’s the full roundup of how Mega Evolutions work in Pokemon Legends: Z-A:

Mario Kart World PETA Cow nose ring

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, is now taking issue with Mario Kart World and specifically the Cow character.

Cow is playable for the first time in series history. With that new popularity and overall interest in the game, it’s caught the attention of PETA. The organization is requesting for the nose ring to be removed.

PETA says that in the real world, these rings “are used by the meat and dairy industries to exploit, control, and even drag animals to their deaths.” The letter further goes on to talk about issues with the piercing.

PETA’s full letter to Nintendo about Mario Kart World’s Cow is as follows:

Drag x Drive credits Hisashi Nogami

Following the release of Drag x Drive, fans are diving into the game’s credits, which includes Hisashi Nogami – who previously worked on Animal Crossing and Splatoon.

Drag x Drive is one of Nintendo’s smaller teams in recent years. Looking at the core development team, it looks like there were just twenty people involved.

The full lineup is as follows:

Tempered Hue

Today, Zugalu Entertainment announced that it’s planning Tempered Hue for Nintendo Switch 2. The game is targeting a Q3 2026 launch.

Tempered Hue is all about about running a blacksmith shop. There’s crafting, material gathering in caverns, selling items, and more.

Borderlands 4 split-screen co-op Switch 2

If you’re planning on picking up Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2, you should keep in mind that split-screen co-op won’t be included. On the bright side, there is support for cross-play.

Split-screen co-op will be available on other consoles. However, it won’t be offered on Nintendo’s system, according to a support page. Specifics aren’t provided as to why that is.

A note in the FAQ states the following regarding split-screen co-op for Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2:

Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion Reclaimers and Neun

Two more videos are in for Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion, this time focusing on the Reclaimers and the Neun. These are key factions in the game.

There are a lot of question marks surrounding the rest of Nintendo’s Switch 2 lineup for the rest of the year, including Kirby Air Riders. Outside of the initial reveal back in April, we haven’t heard about the project at all. Making things stranger is the fact that the game is supposed to launch this year, even though we’ve yet to see any actual footage.

We do at least have a brief status update from director Masahiro Sakurai. Just a few minutes ago, Sakurai shared on social media that he thinks he’ll be able to share more information about the game soon. We’re already in mid-August, so fans are wondering what’s happening with the project.

Madden NFL 26 trailer

Nintendo and EA are celebrating the launch of Madden NFL 26 on Switch 2 with a new trailer. This is a notable release given that the series has been absent on Nintendo platforms since the Wii U era.
