Wii Shop Channel

Nintendo Network

It’s a ways off, but Nintendo has scheduled more shop maintenance for later in the month. The Wii U and 3DS eShops, Wii Shopping Channel, and DSi Shop will be affected.

Here’s when it’ll be taking place:

– 1 PM PT (September 12) – 7 PM PT (September 12)
– 4 PM ET (September 12) – 10 PM ET (September 12)
– 9 PM in the UK (September 12) – 3 AM in the UK (September 13)
– 10 PM in Europe (September 12) – 4 AM in Europe (September 13)

It’s been a quiet week for Nintendo maintenance, but things will be picking up again starting on Monday. Nintendo is planning four hours of maintenance for the Wii U and 3DS eShops, Wii Shopping Channel, and DSi Shop.

Here’s the schedule:

– 1 PM PT (August 22) – 5 PM PT (August 22)
– 4 PM ET (August 22) – 8 PM ET (August 22)
– 9 PM in the UK (August 22) – 1 AM in the UK (August 23)
– 10 PM in Europe (August 22) – 2 AM in Europe (August 23)

During this period, you’ll be unable to access all four digital shops.

Two versions of Super Turrican exist. The now-defunct Factor 5 hoped to have the game on a 6Mbit cartridge way back in the day, but the game’s publisher only allowed for 4Mbit. According to Julian Eggebrecht from Factor 5, that meant the whole final level was removed, including an extra boss.

During the Wii days, Factor 5 actually wanted to restore the original version on the Virtual Console. The 6Mbit cartridge version would have been released as a bonus for those who purchased Super Turrican and Mega Turrican back in 2008. Unfortunately, Nintendo had a policy in which anything that wasn’t commercially available previously couldn’t be published. That meant the dream of having the true version of Super Turrican never materialized.

All of Nintendo’s digital shops will be down for a bit of maintenance later today. The Wii U and 3DS eShops, Wii Shopping Channel, and DSi Shop will be impacted for an hour.

Maintenance is set for the following times:

– 1 PM PT – 2 PM PT
– 4 PM ET – 5 PM ET
– 9 AM in the UK – 10 AM in the UK
– 10 AM in Europe – 11 AM in Europe

Next week, all of Nintendo’s digital shops will be down for several hours of maintenance. This will affect the Wii U and 3DS eShops, Wii Shopping Channel, and DSi Shop.

The maintenance is scheduled for:

– 9 AM PT (June 27) – 5 PM PT (June 27)
– 12 PM ET (June 27) – 8 PM ET (June 27)
– 5 PM in the UK (June 27) – 1 AM in the UK (June 28)
– 6 PM in Europe (June 27) – 2 AM in Europe (June 28)

SEGA was a strong proponent of the Wii Virtual Console back in the day. The company also has quite a number of titles up on the eShop. It sounds like SEGA wanted to work with other companies like Capcom and Bandai Namco on VC titles, but things sadly never came together.

SEGA told Yosuke Okunari in a recent interview:

“During the Wii Virtual Console days, we worked with other developers and were able to port games that were on Megadrive and other Sega systems. Those were all made on our side. However, negotiations with some publishers, like Capcom and Bandai-Namco, didn’t go through. We did consider negotiating again when the 3DS came along, but business-wise, nothing really came together.”

A couple of weeks ago, YouTube user PtoPOnline shared a report on the cancelled WiiWare game Bonk: Brink of Extinction. He has since uploaded a ton of pure gameplay. In the video below, you’ll find 35 minutes of footage.

Bonk: Brink of Extinction was in development for WiiWare and other platforms many years ago. Even though it was very far along into production, Hudson cancelled the project.

We’ve seen bits and pieces of Bonk: Brink of Extinction over the years, but YouTube user PtoPOnline has another look at the game – including direct-feed footage. Watch the video below for his report on the development and more.
