In the latest issue of Famitsu, Final Fantasy Explorers director Atsuhi Hashimoto and project manager Takahiro Abe spoke more about befriending monsters, the game’s difficulty, and the game’s world. You can find their comments below, courtesy of Siliconera’s translation.

A new Nintendo Direct of sorts will be shown this Friday, Nintendo has confirmed. The latest presentation will be dedicated to the Japanese release of Youkai Watch 2. Youkai Watch 2 Direct will be shown at 6 PM Japan time.

Wii U eShop

Three new Virtual Console games are on track for the Japanese Wii U eShop next week. Mega Man Battle Network (GBA), Battle City (Famicom), and Alien Crush (PCE) will be out on July 9. Pricing is set at 702 yen, 514 yen, and 617 yen respectively.

Yet another Pokemon 3DS XL is coming to Japan as part of a raffle. Between July 15 and August 25, fans can enter the giveaway by spending over 1,000 yen at the Famil family restaurant.

One of 10 versions of the brown 3DS XL pictured above can be won. It comes with a decal based on the Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction movie.

During the week of June 16, Pokemon Art Academy launched in Japan. While it only moved 31,080 copies, the game sold through 70.11 percent of its initial shipment.

Pokemon Art Academy actually could have sold even more if not for a recent Nintendo promotion. The title was made free (starting this month and lasting through the end of July) as part of Nintendo’s Recommended Monthly Software Campaign. You also have to consider that overall sales slowed during the week due to it being the week before payday.

Japan saw its slowest week in 2014 thus far in terms of game sales. According to Media Create, total software sales dipped below 380,000 units. Previously, the third week of May was Japan’s slowest.

There weren’t many games that sold particular well last week. Pro Evolution Soccer 2014: Challenge of the Blue Samurai experienced a slight uptick – likely due to the FIFA World Cup – but that’s about it.
