Why game sales saw a boost in Japan last week

Game sales experienced a rather large increase in Japan last week, even though there was no special occasion/holiday. So what happened here?
The rise can be attributed to three factors. Consumers were spending more prior to a 3 percent increase in consumption tax starting on April 1, many Japanese schools were holding a spring vacation, and gamers were receiving payments from Japanese companies, which usually take place on the 25th of each month.

3 more 3DS models heading to Japan for upcoming promotions

Japan is getting another trio of 3DS models as part of upcoming promotions. They feature decals of Ash, Xerneas, and Yveltal from the movie on the front, with Pikachu and Diancie on the back. Each system is tied in to the 2014 World Cup and the release of the Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie film.
Skypeace hitting the Japanese 3DS eShop next week

Abyss and Airport Hero developer Sonic Powered will soon launch “Skypeace” on the Japanese 3DS eShop.
Players move the Circle Pad up and down to collect coins while flying a rocket propelled surfboard. Power ups are included, such as an Energy Core to fly faster or a shield item for protection. A total of ten stages are provided in the game.
Skypeace will be available in Japan on April 9 for 300 yen.

Capcom planning Gaist Crusher God for 3DS

Capcom and Treasure are working on a follow-up to Gaist Crusher, a 3DS game released in Japan in December 2013. The new project, titled “Gaist Crusher God”, will launch this fall.

This week’s Jump has four more character confirmations for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call. Eiko from Final Fantasy IX, Jecht from Final Fantasy X, Fran from Final Fantasy XII, and Noel from Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be included in the game.
