Super Mario Bros. animated movie delayed to April 2023

The Super Mario Bros. animated movie has been delayed to April 2023, Nintendo has just announced.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who is a co-producer on the film, shared the news. He and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri were in agreement to push the film back April 7 in North America and April 28 in Japan. It was previously planned for December of this year.

Jason Momoa to star in Minecraft movie

Jason Momoa, the star of Aquaman and Dune, is now set to be the leading actor in the upcoming Minecraft movie, The Ankler and The Hollywood Reporter have claimed. Additionally, Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess will be in charge of directing.
News about the Minecraft movie appears to trickle in every so often, but this is one of the more substantial updates we’ve had in some time. We heard a few years ago that the film would debut in March 2022, though that never came to be. The COVID-19 pandemic no doubt impacted things, but a new date has not been announced at this time.

Cinematic universes and connecting characters is a big part of the movie industry, but we’ve seen to see Nintendo tackle the idea with something like Super Smash Bros., which is a gaming franchise famous for its crossovers. However, there is at least one notable director out there with experience who would like to give it a shot.
Jeff Fowler is just coming off the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film which he directed. In an interview with Comicbook, he was asked about giving Smash Bros. the movie treatment. Here’s what he said in response:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie final trailer

Paramount Pictures has gone live with a final trailer for its upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. This comes ahead of the film’s debut next month.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 takes place immediately after the first movie from 2020. Dr. Robotnik is up to his nefarious ways, and enlists the help of Knuckles the Echidna for revenge on Sonic. Meanwhile, Sonic teams up with Miles “Tails” Prower – who makes his debut – with the two going off on a search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie Super Bowl commercial leaked

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will have a presence at the Super Bowl this weekend as the movie will be debuting a new commercial. However, it appears that the advert has surfaced online early.
The first proper trailer was released during The Game Awards back in December. This commercial provides another look at the film with new scenes.

During The Game Awards today, SEGA and Paramount Pictures debuted the very first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.
Ben Schwartz will be back as Sonic the Hedgehog, as will be Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. We’ll also be seeing Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna.

Next Sonic game, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie confirmed for The Game Awards 2021

The Game Awards 2021 will have not one, but two new Sonic debuts.
On the game side of things, SEGA intends to show off the next core 3D entry in the franchise. The project was originally announced for Switch earlier this year with a brief CG teaser. Not much is known at present, though that should change come tomorrow. SEGA has thus far only committed to a 2022 release window. We actually don’t have a confirmed name just yet.

Metroid director and producer hopes a movie will happen someday

Nintendo is starting to dabble with the movie space in the form of the Super Mario animated film, but could we see other franchises – like Metroid – get the same treatment?
Yoshio Sakamoto started out on the original Metroid as a designer. Since then, he’s worked on almost all of the 2D games as either a director and producer.

Rumor: Donkey Kong will be getting his own solo movie with Seth Rogen

A new solo animated movie for Donkey Kong is in the works, a report from GiantFreakinRobot claims.
Much about the supposed project is not yet known. However, Illumination would be in charge of handling the film and Seth Rogen would again be voicing the character. Rogen is set to play Donkey Kong in next year’s Super Mario animated movie, which is on track for December 2022.

Sebastian Maniscalco says he’s voicing “Spike” in the Super Mario animated movie

There hasn’t been much casting news surrounding the Super Mario animated movie (or news about the film in general), but it seems that Sebastian Maniscalco is voicing a character.
The actor and comedian appeared during the latest episode of Bertcast where he casually mentioned his involvement. Maniscalco said that he’s “in the movie Super Mario Bros., an animated movie” before adding that he’s “playing Spike, their boss.”
