In its monthly NPD response, Nintendo revealed that Wii U sales increased by 25 percent in February compared to the year prior. That statistic allows us to determine a rough estimate of the number of consoles the company sold across the US last month.

So how much did the Wii U sell? About 82,000, based on the calculation. That’s not a whole lot, but Nintendo seems to be pleased that sales are up as a whole.

Nintendo has issued its monthly response to the latest NPD report. Last month, Wii U and 3DS both experienced positive sales.

On Wii U, hardware sales rose by 25 percent over the same month last year. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold 130,000 copies between physical and digital sales. In total, Wii U software sales are up 180 percent over the same month in 2013.

3DS also saw an increase in software sales – 25 percent specifically. Bravely Default was a success for Nintendo having sold over 200,000 copies in a little over three weeks.

XSEED appears to be fairly satisfied with Senran Kagura Burst’s sales.

When asked by a fan on Facebook if the company is considering additional entries in the series for localization, XSEED said Burst “sold well enough”. As such, the publisher is “open to considering other iterations in the series.”

“[Senran Kagura Burst] has sold well enough that we are open to considering other iterations in the series.”

Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson hits Japan in August. Might that game eventually make it to North America?

Wii U hasn’t been lighting up the Japanese sales charts, but something about the system’s performance may surprise you. Through their first three weeks of availability, Nintendo’s console has actually outsold the PlayStation 4.

Check out a comparison between the two below:

PS4 supply may be constrained in Japan, though that’s likely not the only reason for lower-than-expected sales. This is also another sign that the impact of consoles continue to decline in the territory. As IGN points out, even the 3DS and PS Vita haven’t reached the same heights as their predecessors.
