Splatoon 2’s first Splatfest will be a worldwide affair. As is the case in other regions, Japan’s topic is confirmed to be mayonnaise vs. ketchup. Nintendo had previously confirmed the same for North America and Europe.

The timing for each Splatfest will vary by region. In North America, the event begins on Friday, August 4 at 9 PM PT / Saturday, August 5 at 12 AM ET. It will end exactly one day later.

Nintendo notes that the results will be unique based on region. The way in which the tweet is worded makes it seem as though Japan, America + Australia / New Zealand, and Europe will be tallied separately.

Another new weapon will be added to Splatoon 2 tomorrow, July 29th. The Dual Squelcher from the first game has been reimagined as a Dualies-style weapon – the Dualie Squelchers. Just like with the Splat Dualies, you’ll also be able to use dodge rolls with this weapon. The Dualie Squelchers will come with the Point Sensor sub weapon and the Tenta Missiles special weapon.

Nintendo just sent out a new update for Splatoon 2. The latest version for the game is 1.1.2.

Today’s update addresses an issue with the SplatNet Gear Shop as well as a problem with displaying ranking information. Additionally, Nintendo adjusted the number of points required to fill the special gauge for a few weapons.

We’ve posted the full patch notes below.

Famitsu has just reported that Splatoon 2 has sold 670,955 physical copies in Japan within the first three days of the game’s release . This makes Splatoon 2 the biggest debut for a Switch title and highest selling Switch title to date in Japan.

Comparing the sales from the first game, Splatoon for Wii U had sold 156,610 physical copies in Japan within its first four days of release. Now that is really impressive and fresh.

Miiverse doesn’t exist on Switch. However, that hasn’t stopped Splatoon 2 players from coming up with some creative drawings. The game has its own built-in feature so that all sorts of images can be created and shared with others.

ShinyQuagsire23 has gone out of his way to develop a program that brings the more complicated drawings to life. The Pokken Tournament controller is used to enter in the correct sequence of movements and button presses needed to make the drawing. You can sort of think of it as a tool-assisted run. In general, drawings take roughly an hour to complete.

Here’s a look at the program in action:

Famitsu published a lengthy Splatoon 2 feature this week. Among the coverage was an interview with four of the game’s developers. Art director Seita Inoue, lead programmer Shintaro Sato, director Yusuke Amano, and producer Hisashi Nogami participated in the talk.

The developers weighed in on Splatoon 2’s improvements and adjustments from the first game, the new Salmon Run mode, the story, and future updates. Among the things discussed were Nintendo’s approach to Salmon Run, how Nintendo considered announcing a Splatoon sequel during the first game’s final Splatfest, a tease of more new weapon categories, and more. The developers were even asked if Marina is an Octoling.

You can find a comprehensive summary of important points from Famitsu’s interview below.

The Inkbrush was added in as Splatoon’s first new weapon a few hours ago. Take a look at some footage showing it in action below.
