Super Mario RPG composer Yoko Shimomura

Super Mario RPG is finally back after many years with a new Switch remake, and Yoko Shimomura has now confirmed her involvement. Shimomura was the original composer of the SNES RPG.

If you saw today’s trailer, you may have noticed that Super Mario RPG features updated music on Switch. Shimomura confirmed that she’s in charge of arranging all of the songs.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R

Square Enix is bringing Star Ocean: The Second Story R to Switch, the company announced today. The release date has been confirmed for November 2, 2023.

Star Ocean: The Second Story originally released for the PlayStation in 1998 in Japan, with the North American and European launch rolling out over the following years. It’s not the first time the RPG is seeing a re-release as an updated version known as Star Ocean: Second Evolution first appeared on the PSP.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince

Square Enix is developing Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince for Switch, Square Enix just announced. A release is planned for December 1, 2023.

A new Dragon Quest Monsters game was teased for Switch last month in celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. However, Square Enix didn’t provide any sort of specifics.

Super Mario RPG

After nearly three decades, Super Mario RPG is finally making a return. Today’s Nintendo Direct revealed that a remake is in the works for Switch. A release is planned for November 17, 2023.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars originally made it to the SNES in 1996. It did come to the Virtual Console on Wii and Wii U, but it was not added to the Nintendo Switch Online service. 

Speculation about Super Mario RPG possibly making a comeback were abound this week following rumors from someone who seemed to have early knowledge about this week’s Nintendo Direct.

Circuit Superstars Top Gear The Stig Challenge DLC

We just heard that Circuit Superstars will be appearing on Switch in just a few days, but news for the game doesn’t stop there as Top Gear: The Stig Challenge DLC has been revealed.

The upcoming content is inspired by classic moments from the legendary television show. Players will have to put their skills to the test in a new level.

Circuit Superstars

Original Fire Games will release Circuit Superstars on Switch next week, the studio has announced. It will be available on June 22, 2023.

Circuit Superstars, a top-down racer, first released towards thee end of 2021 to a strong reception. A ton of features involving both single-player and mutliplayer. We have lots of additional details below.

The Lara Croft Collection

Feral Interactive will publish The Lara Croft Collection on Switch this month, an eShop listing reveals. It will be available on June 29, 2023.

We previously reported on this back in October 2021. The collection includes Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris. Up to four players are supported with local co-op.

An update has been released for Triangle Strategy, bringing the game up to version 1.1.0. This brings with it a variety of surprising new content, including extra chapter events that can be played through after completion of Serenoa’s route in the game. The update will also allow you to replay story and character battles. Full notes can be found below:

Octopath Traveler II sales milestone million

Square Enix has shared a new sales milestones for Octopath Traveler II. Since launch, total shipments and digital sales for the RPG have surpassed one million units worldwide.

That news was shared in an official tweet today. A special piece of art was posted to celebrate, which we have above.

Octopath Traveler II initially released for Switch on February 24, 2023.

Yuji Naka arrested Square Enix

Original: Reports out of Japan indicate that Yuji Naka has been arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office. A case has been kicking around this week regarding insider trading, and it seems Naka is now involved.

It was already reported earlier today that Square Enix employee Taisuke Sazaki and their acquaintance Fumiaki Suzuki were arrested for unfairly acquiring stock in Aiming. Square Enix works with Aiming on mobile games, including Dragon Quest Tact and Gestalt Odin. Sazaki and Suzuki were arrested under suspicions of purchasing around 47 million yen of stock in Aiming before it was officially revealed that they would be working with Square Enix on Dragon Quest Tact.
