Super Mario Odyssey

Lives are gone in Super Mario Odyssey. Rather than losing a life when you die, you lose coins instead.

But what happens when you run out of coins in Super Mario Odyssey? As we found out a few months ago, the game doesn’t have any game over screens. Nintendo instead has decided to warp players back to the most recent location you exited from.

More and more ads for Super Mario Odyssey have been appearing in Japan during the lead up to the launch. Another billboard located in Shibuya is shown above.

We’ve seen a couple of other billboards over the past few weeks as well. One featured Mario in Shiveria, and another involved Steam Gardens.

Despite being two weeks away, Super Mario Odyssey already received its first review this week. UK magazine EDGE published a verdict in its latest issue. It couldn’t have been better, with Super Mario Odyssey being given a perfect 10.

If you’re interested in what EDGE actually said about the game, you can find some tidbits from the review below. There isn’t much in the way of spoilers, but a couple of points may touch on things that you may want to know for yourself – like the rough number of capture possibilities. So keep that in mind before proceeding.

We have another good look at the Super Mario Odyssey 3DS theme now with a video from NintenDaan, you can see the video down below showing off the theme.

Nintendo has uploaded a video on their Japanese channel showing off half an hour worth of Super Mario Odyssey footage, you can check it out down below.

A new 3DS theme based on Super Mario Odyssey is now available in Japan. It can be purchased for 100 yen until November 9, and will then go up to 200 yen.

Here’s a look at the theme:

Eventually, this same theme should be offered in North America and Europe – likely very soon.

As we heard yesterday, Super Mario Odyssey is featured on the cover of EDGE’s latest issue. The magazine delivered the first verdict for the game in which it handed out a perfect score of 10.

EDGE ended up preparing two separate covers. The first, pictured above, is for subscribers. We also have a look at the standard version below.

In the latest issue of GamesMaster, the magazine shares some choice words with Super Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi. Koizumi weighed in on how the Switch game encompasses previous 3D Marios, the theme of travel, and wanting to take advantage of the Joy-Con.

Below is a roundup of the various comments:

This month’s issue of EDGE was originally supposed to be with subscribers at this point. However, the magazine was delayed “to accommodate an exclusive embargo.” Subscribers will have the issue tomorrow, but we’re hearing that it’s already showing up in stores – and Super Mario Odyssey is apparently on the cover.

We don’t have any images just yet, but Mario is shown in a white tuxedo. But more importantly, EDGE appears to have the very first review of the game.

Earlier today, Nintendo kicked off its cross-country promotional tour for Super Mario Odyssey. The fun began at Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles where the game was playable, the musical video debuted, and more.
