February 12: Dave the Diver has another collaboration in the cards, and has now revealed Ichiban’s Holiday DLC. The new content drops this April.
The Ichiban’s Holiday DLC features a partnership with SEGA’s Yakuza / Like a Dragon franchise. There’s a new plot here, new mini-games, and more.

Crypt Custodian to receive Nintendo Switch physical release

Today, Welsh distributor and publisher Curveball announced that it’s producing a physical release for Crypt Custodian on Nintendo Switch. This comes as part of a new partnership between Top Hat Studios and Kyle Thompson.
Top Hat Studios’ Andi Han noted today: “Crypt Custodian is one of the highlights of the whole Metroidvania genre that’ve been released in the past year, and it also encapsulates the kind of thing we love in games: great ideas, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to fun, made by a developer pursuing what fulfils them artistically. We’re pleased to see the game coming to retail in physical form, and that many more players will have the delight of experiencing it.”
Nintendo Switch Online adding Nobunaga’s Ambition games, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4, Uncharted Water: New Horizons

Four more SNES games are on the way to Nintendo Switch Online with Nobunaga’s Ambition, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Lord of Darkness, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4: Wall of Fire, and Uncharted Water: New Horizons joining the service. The full set will be available on March 28, 2025.
All of these titles can be accessed through the SNES app. Only a subscription is needed for the main service – no Expansion Pack membership required.

Sonokuni, a Japanese hip hop biopunk action game, coming to Nintendo Switch [update: out next week]

March 6: Today, Kakehashi Games and Don Yasa Crew announced that they’re bringing Sonokuni to Nintendo Switch. No release window was provided, but it’s planned to launch soon after the PC version – which is currently slated for Q1 2025.
Sonokuni is a Japanese hip hop biopunk action title. You’ll play as Takeru, a lone assassin tasked with raiding a surreal superpower empowered by biotechnology. The story is inspired by real-life Japanese mythology.

Life-sim adventure train game Locomoto announced for Nintendo Switch

Green Tile Digital’s upcoming game Locomoto is planned for Nintendo Switch, it’s been announced. Expect to see this one later in 2025.
In the life-sim adventure train game, players act as a conductor. It features train customization, crafting, interacting with different characters, and more.

Broken Mirror Game, in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment, today announced I Hate This Place. The game launches in Q4 2025 for Nintendo Switch.
I Hate This Place is an open-world survival horror game. Bloober Team is setting up a new horror label, and this project will be a part of it.

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster just announced its final release date. For players on Nintendo Switch and elsewhere, the game launches on June 26, 2025.
We only just found out that System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster would be released on Nintendo Switch last month. The 1999 classic sci-fi horror action will now be returning with extra bells and whistles very soon.

At GDC 2025 today, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced the Accessible Games Initiative, a cross-industry effort to provide consumers with clear information about the accessibility features available in video games.
Nintendo will be participating as a founding member company along with Electronic Arts, Google, Microsoft, Nintendo of America and Ubisoft. Sony Interactive Entertainment, Amazon Games, Riot Games, Square Enix, and Warner Bros. Games are also participating.

It’s been revealed that PlayStation co-creator Ken Kutaragi has a Nintendo PlayStation prototype tucked away in his closest, and it’s a bit different from the hardware we’ve seen previously.
Julian Domanski, a professional photographer in Japan, recently met up with Kutaragi and shared a few photos of the hardware on social media. Needless to say, these things are pretty rare. Domanski mentioned that “the last one in existence was believed to have sold at auction for $300,000.”
