SEGA hasn’t had much to say about Project Sonic 2017 since the original announcement last July, but we are finally receiving an update soon. A Sonic panel will be hosted at SXSW 2017 next month, and a “new reveal” is planned for the game as well as Sonic Mania. An “exclusive behind-the-scenes look” is promised for both titles.

Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka will be on hand for the panel along with SEGA’s Aaron Webber and Mike Pollock plus voice actor Roger Craig Smith. Surprises are also teased.

The Sonic SXSW 2017 panel will be hosted on March 16 for about an hour beginning at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET / 11 PM in the UK / 12 AM (March 17) in Europe.

A panel for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be held at GDC 2017, Nintendo announced today. Game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, art director Satoru Takizawa, and technical director Takuhiro Dohta will be on hand for the panel, named “Change and Constant – Breaking Conventions with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”. The event “will provide an in-depth look at how these convention-breaking changes were implemented.”

Nintendo will host the panel between 11 AM to 12:30 PM local time on March 1 at the Moscone Center. It doesn’t sound like a live stream will be offered, but it will be shown on the GDC Vault site the following week.

It’s time for the latest Famitsu‘s most wanted games chart. Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch moves up several spots while a number of new Switch games also appear for the first time.

Head past the break for the full chart. All votes were cast between January 26 and February 1.

Boxes for upcoming Switch games have started to show up in Japan. One of these includes Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, which has been floating around on places on 2ch. The box provides a couple of important details about the game.

First, it’s now officially confirmed that Ultra Street Fighter II will have a new first-person mode. This was originally teased in the game’s debut trailer last month. It’s a unique game mode called “Unleash! Ha”DO”ken”, and is specialized for use with the Joy-Con controllers in a first-person view.

At the start of July, Pokemon GO will be celebrating its first anniversary. The game has no doubt been an incredible success so far over the past several months, but players have been waiting on new features, including the ability to trade Pokemon.

Speaking with Waypoint, Niantic CEO John Hanke did say that new features are due out soon in “an abbreviated form”, with more complete versions to follow later.

Hanke told the site:

“It has far surpassed our expectations in just turning everybody onto the potential for games that break out of the screen. But the priority for Pokémon Go now is to build in those things that reward co-operative gameplay, and make experiences available that offer more depth than just the capturing mechanic.”

Eagle-eyed Zelda fans have spotted another section from Breath of the Wild’s menu that seems to tie in to a certain game mechanic. Just to potentially avoid spoilers and be extra safe, we’ve posted the image after the break.

Splatoon 2 producer Hisashi Nogami shared a bunch of information about the game in an interview with 4Gamer last week. Famitsu published its own interview with Nogami in the magazine’s latest issue, and surprisingly, had a ton more to say.

First, Nogami went in-depth about what’s planned for Splatoon 2 in terms of weapons. He also further clarified how Switch’s new mobile app will work for online play, spoke about improving the visuals this time around, and confirmed HD Rumble. If that wasn’t enough, Nogami also noted that Splatoon on Wii U won’t have its online play discontinued anytime soon.

You can continue on below for our full translation (note: some small parts omitted due to being covered in the 4Gamer post, old, or not being relevant to anything). Strap yourselves in, since this is a pretty lengthy one.

According to the Nintendo UK page for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the game will only contain English voiceover. That means dual audio won’t be included. It was a similar situation with Fire Emblem Fates, so perhaps this news wasn’t entirely unexpected.
